Hi All...
I don't normall post here (unless giving support), but I just had to tell you all about my daughters 2nd grade field trip. We live in a VERY rural small town in MI! We went to a historic farm, called Waterloo Farm Museum. I have been there many many times (I'm a history buff lol), anyway...our museum guide was AWESOME! Part of the tour is viewing the one room cabin that the Raelly's (sp?) used to live in (they are the first settlers to this area). As the story goes...Mr. Raelly found a young pregnant indian girl in the woods, and she was very ill. Mrs. Raelly had just had her second child and was nursing. When they brought the young indian girl home to their one room cabin, she later gave birth and she passed away. Mrs. Raelly nursed the baby and when the child was well and strong and very healthy Mr. Raelly went to find the tribe to return the child to. Now, I had known this story and I have three kids and have been on three field trips to this musuem. Alas, this time the GUIDE specifically tells the children that women in that era BF their babies...I was like WOW...YES!! The children listened...no ewwwwww's escaped them...then she went on to explain how mama Raelly had nursed the idian girls baby...and a few children asked questions, and she answered them very well...and very simple (remember these are 8 yr olds lol). I was just so happy that she took the time to acknowledge nursing...and to show what good it can do (by saving the baby's life). Anyway...I just thought I would share...if anyone would like the address so they can send encouraging letters to keep them telling all the children that visit, please PM me and I will give you the addy!!!
