I was kind of curious how my mom would take the news that we are having an out-of-hospital birth this time around. I was talking to her today, and casually mentioned that I really liked my new midwife. She asked why I wasn't using the same midwife as last time (for the record: I had a family doc and a doula for labor support last time); turns out she thought the doula was a midwife and that she had delivered the baby.
Anyways, mom was super supportive, thought the birth center sounded great (I didn't bring up the possibility of home birth yet), and was still very, very confused about the whole doula/midwife distinction by the end of our conversation.
Now if only I could get her to be as supportive of the fact that I am still nursing my toddler!
