I just wanted to share a GREAT experience I had yesterday. I am a contractor to US Agency for International Development (USAID) and I visited their lactation room for bfing mothers yesterday so I could pump.
Wow, lots of comfy chairs, sofas, lots and lots of electric plugs for pumps, pictures of mom's babies, information on bfing, magazines, and a full-sized fridge. And lots of space to store breastpumps. Judging by the number of pumps there, there are at least 20 moms using the facility. It was AWESOME.
And the coolest part was the attitude of the moms using room - very friendly and supportive. I was chatting with one mom while pumping - we were comparing stories about our kids, supply, etc. Another mom let me in the room when I realized I didn't have the code number - she was really welcoming.
I just wanted to share this positive experience since this is representative of your tax dollars!!! USAID funds activities which promote WHO standards for exclusive and supplemental breastfeeding around the world - and I am so glad to see them walk the walk in Washington too!
