Eggs

OK,I have definitely figured out that eggs is a problem for Maya (4 months). There may be more problems, but eggs is for sure bad. Now, I need to know what I need to look out for. I know that there are many hidden words for milk--are there any for eggs. I also remember reading that some vaccines are not for those with egg allergies. Obviously I don't know if this will forever affect her, but is does now. So, I need to know what else to avoid. She is exclusively breastfed and I do eat "mostly" whole foods that I make. . .but not always.

Thanks,

Amy

The only vaccines that are off limits are influenza and yellow fever.

lecithin contains egg, unless it says soy lecithin
there are many other hidden names

If you live in the US, it is now law for something that has any of the top 8 to clearly say that they contain that allergen. Eggs are in the top 8, so if a food says lecithin, it will either have in parentheses soy or egg, or it will say AFTER the ingredients, "CONTAINS EGG or soy or whatever. THe only think I can think of ruight now that means egg is albumin, unless it says it somes from something else.

My sister is allergic to eggs. She cannot have the MMR shot because of it.

This is no longer true. THe MMR used to be grown on eggs, but it isn't anymore. THe only vaccines that have egg in them now are the flu vaccine and yellow fever vax, like someone else posted above.

I had an Egg allergy during childhood...

I grew out of it, but mine was mild. My mouth & tounge just itched so bad I would use a wash rag to try & "cure" it. Hopefully your baby's allergy won't be serious. I think the Chicken Pox Vaccine is one you should aviod if an egg allergy is present. I may be getting it mixed up w/ the flu vaccine, which I am SURE should not be given to someone w/ an egg allergy...

albumin, globulin, livetin, lysozyme, ovalbumin, ovoglobulin, ovomucin, ovomucoid, ovotransferrin, ovovitella, and ovovitellin, all ovo names, silici albuminate

Remember that at stores if you say egg replacer many people will think egg substitute. Egg substitute is made of egg whites. The only egg replacer I know works is ener G egg replacer.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info! I am having a hard time finding an egg substitute that isn't egg whites--but now I have a name to look for.

So, if the MMR used to be grown on eggs, when did that stop?
