Getting an ultrasound?

Hi there,

I'm just wondering how many of you are planning an ultrasound. I had one with dd1, didn't with ds2, and can't decide this time. We're planning a home birth, as long as everything sticks, so I'd have to kinda go out of my way to get one (and pay extra). But since I have a boy and a girl now, I'm kind of itching to know the gender (we didn't find out with either of my other pgs).

So, just wanted to see what you all were planning.

I had an ultrasound last week at 10.5 weeks pregnant. I'm having another one tomorrow for a nuchal translucency test and then I will probably have another at 18-20 weeks. It depends on how the test goes.

I will only have one at 20 weeks as long as all is well

I've already had 1 - ordered as a "dating" ultrasound, but meant to see if we were able to determine a reason for repeated episodes of spotting.

I'll have another at 18 weeks.

No others unless there is a need.

I didn't ever have one with dd#1. Had one at 41 weeks with dd#2 to check amniotic fluid index. We're planning on having one at about 20 weeks with this pregnancy, as my midwife likes to be sure of the position of the placenta and also because, we're not doing any of the screening tests, my DH wants to be sure that the baby is healthy and developing normally. I figured that if that was the only thing that I had to concede to, to help him feel more secure about the homebirth, I'm doing pretty good.

I had the normal "several" with dd when I saw an OB. This time we're homebirthing with a mw but seeing an OB as a back up. I will request one u/s at around 20 weeks to double check that all is well with the baby. I will just feel better knowing I'm birthing a healthy baby at home. I trust my body to do the birthing, but the creation process scares the pants off me. So, my u/s will be my insurance policy and peace of mind.

I am in the exact same boat as you.
We had 2 u/s w/ ds1. 1 at 19 wks and 1 and 41 wks (to check fluid, etc). W/ ds2 we did not have any u/s. W/ this pg I had a u/s at 7 wks bcs I have had 2 m/c in a row and was really freaking out. It was worth it to me for the peace of mind as I had not slept in over 3 days. We have not decided if we will have another or if we will find out the sex. We have never know before but thought that we might like to know this time.
So that's what we are doing. Not real decided about it yet.

I had one already for dating, since I was measuring 2 weeks ahead of my original dates (whoops - not very good at keeping track!) and am planning an out of hospital birth.

We'll probably have a 20 week, too, because DH has his heart set on finding out the sex this time, and I wouldn't let him last time.

I had one at 9 weeks with this one and will have another around 18-20 weeks. I had two with ds1 (one at 20wks and one at 41 wks). I had one with ds2 at 18 weeks.

I like knowing that all the organs are developing properly and functioning. My best friend just found out her baby may only have one kidney at her 21 week u/s. And while he will be able to live a normal life if that is the case, it is very good to know. If it weren't for an u/s, they would of had no idea that was even a possibility.

I had 1 "dating" U/S with this PG already, and am only planning on 1 more mid-way through to make sure everything is alright (we're not finding out the gender).

As long as everything is okay and nothing presents itself to indicate otherwise, we'll not have any ultrasounds.

I never got a urine positive, so I kind of have to to prove to the Dr that I am PG. I made an app so I will be 15 weeks at that time. WIth DS1 and 2 I was 20 weeks.

With DS, I didn't have any until my water broke at 29 weeks and we needed to check AFI. I ended up having 2 in one day (about 5 hours apart - the AFI was increasing, thankfully!). Otherwise, we wouldn't have had any, since I was seeing a homebirth midwife and around here, it's really difficult to get an OB appt just for one thing (like a test or something). I had called one to just get routine preg bloodwork done so I could get insurance to cover it, and no one would take me for just one appt! Ugh!

This time around, since there is a chance of PPROM happening again, I am seeing an OB in tandem with the same midwife I saw last time. I'm getting the routine u/s's he does - one is normally done at 8 weeks (I was really 7w1d at the time - I have long cycles and ovulate around day 23), and the other is at 20 weeks. I went with the dating u/s because I wanted my chart to reflect my true gestation and not have me 9 days off as it is if you go by LMP! Also, I wanted to be sure of gestational age in case I do go preterm again - that's important information when deciding whether to let the baby come early or keep it in longer.

I could refuse the 20 week u/s if I really wanted to - my OB is great about letting me refuse stuff. In fact, when we were talking about alternative ways to take the GTT, he actually said "Well, you CAN refuse the test". My jaw dropped! This is why I love my OB. Anyway, I want to do the 20 week u/s to mainly check that my fluid level is ok (no slow leaks or anything). I'm going to be slightly paranoid about PPROM until I get well past 29 weeks!

i wouldn't have gotten an ultrasound this preg. if everything went well...but i had two weeks of bleeding and a bad bladder infection, so i had one at 6w4d that was abnormal, but had a heartbeat...and another in a week to determin if i have a sticky baby its really up to you!!

I have one booked for Monday morning.
We couldn't get the heart beat, and I'm worried because my uterus doesn't seem as big as it usually is at this stage.
The ultrasound is supposed to be for "dating", because my mw doesn't believe that I know my dates, she's always so negative, I really think I might change if I can. I don't want to go through another pregnancy with bad feelings because of her.
Anyways, I'm really worried that the baby's not alive or that I have a blighted ovum. I really hope to see a live baby on Monday.

I'll be doing the standard 20 week u/s. I don't really want to, but DH wants me to so I will.
I am not sure yet... Dh would like it since we are having a UP/UC but it would mean going to see a doc which is what I am wanting to avoid completely....
Personally, I would rather not...

MY OB does one around 7/8 weeks to find age and due date. He actually moved my due date back 10 days because of the ultrasound. I'll have another at 20 weeks, which is routine for my practice.

With my other two, I had misc. issues in each pregnancy, so I had about four ultrasounds each time. I have hard pregnancies, so I have so say I live for the ultrasounds! Getting a glimpse of the miracle within is very motivating.

I'm having one for dating, hopefully in the next couple of weeks. My last few cycles were long/unpredictable, so I basically have a one month window for my due date at present - which I'd like to narrow down a bit. Hopefully that'll be the only one we do.

I'm having one on Monday, which I am SO excited about! I've had two losses, I'm nervous, and 11 weeks is as early as they'd let me in for a 'peace of mind' u/s. I also am really curious about the # of babies in there. I can feel my uterus several inches about my pubic bone, which is a bit odd for me.
