Food during labor? - Page 2

I couldn't really stomach anything but water during labor last time, but I think a lot of it was nerves...way too many people and too much pressure. Although, right after dd was born, my sister made me a balogna sammich (even cut the crusts off) and that was the best meal I ahve ever had in my entire life! I think food is at it's best right after labor.

This time I plan to have fruit and some carbs (pasta probably) around in case I feel like eating. Otherwise it will be water and rrl tea for me

You know, Desa, I never really looked at the lable, but it's hot cereal, and I love it. My 4 y/o daughter does, too. I think that the stuff I have may be made by arrowhead mills, but not totally certain! Get thee to whole foods to find yourself some, and share it with your little 'uns. Start a new family tradition all over again.

Glad I could bring back pleasant memories, by the way!

i didn't ask if i could eat. i just brought some snacks with me and helped myself. a lot of it has to do with your dr so make sure your practitioner will be on your side if they try to take away your food!

also i ate a big meal before we went to the hospital. cooked up the next nights dinner for breakfast before we left. eggs and steaks yum. nothing came back up.

this time i want to bring peanut butter sandwhiches, protein bars, and some juice cups. not gonna count on them to bring me something.

Hmmm, now I know that this may not have much credibility from the lady who ate Mexican while in labor...but I think I'd avoid peanut butter sammiches in labor (and, uh, I could eat a jumbo foodservice container of PB with a spoon in one sitting any other day...), it just seems a little HEAVY to me...now AFTERWARD? I'd bring oreos (or those newman's organics copies, they're even better, if that's possible...) and peanut butter to dip them in for an after baby dessert!

yeah i think i will probably eat the peanut butter sandwhiches after now that you mention it. i think i ate trail mix during active labor. but i will definately eat a big meal if i feel like it in the early stages. it takes a lot of strength and energy...but maybe i'm just biased bc i didn't vomit with my son.

I ate a HUGE meal (3 big homemade cheeseburgars and corn on the cob) when I went into labor with dd... I also did not vomit, I didn't get nauseous or anything. I SO hope I won't this time around either! Isn't it amazing how GOOD food tastes AFTER labor? I'm thinking about what I might want after... something really yummy, hmm...

I didn't have time to eat during either labour really (3 1/2 hours, and 90 minutes respectively) but I do remember just how HUNGRY I was after !

I was never hungry with any of my labors. My second labor my midwife made me a toast with peanut butter she was trying to get me to eat but as soon as a contraction would hit the food just felt yuck sitting in my mouth. I really wasn't hungry. Then my third baby, it was really fast so she was never trying to make me eat food but was pushing the fluids on me and at one point I just said I'm not drinking any more!! I was so tired of having to go to sit on the toilet. Doing anything other than walking at a brisk pace was just torture.

I really didn't want to eat during labor either. In the beginning of labor w/ dd#1 I ate a can of peaches. After that, I never even thought about eating. Drinking either for that matter. Dh had to remind me to drink. But I am pretty sure I didn't eat anything at all until afterward. Then they bring all the moms a big chocolate shake! (hospital birth) I just remember how awesome that was! But eating in labor was the last thing on my mind. I didn't have easy labors tho. There was none of that building up of contractions over time, where they start out mild and irregular and then get closer and more forceful and more regular. With every single one, my water broke and contractions came fast and furious w/in an hour. Not at all what I expected. lol! And I sure didn't wanna eat when in the middle of that. It was long though, to go w/o eating. Every one was at least 12 hrs. I think I drank juice mostly. You'd think i could remember... ha!

juice, pb w/ cracker, cheese, soup - I had all of these in the course of my "failure to progress" labor. I spent 36 hours in the hospital before ds was born, only about 1 hour of active labor. So, I munched throughout the day. No vomiting here either.
