I went in for my 37 week check up today and the med student thought she was doing something wrong in checking the babies heart beat because it was just under 200 (normal for this baby has been 140-160s). She grabbed my OB (high risk guy) and they did an u/s and found the baby to be in distress or tachycardic as the Dr called it and it looked like she was hyperventilating, I mean if I saw a newborn breathing that fast I'd be calling 911. They rushed me over to L&D and got me hooked up and she kept it up for a while till she fell asleep then things settled down into the 130's (and I was laying on my side) and they let me go home but I'm to return for more monitoring tomorrow after my iron infusion or she starts acting weird, not moving as much, what ever. She's been a lot more active then usual this week I think due to all the contractions I've been having but nothing telling me something was outright wrong other then the other night but I had just been though a stressful event so it made sense that she would be reacting to it too. So, can they be under intermittent stress? I think its a matter of I start walking and the contractions start which are stressing her. Tomorrow I'm going to insist on some kinda stress test even if that means just walking on the ward then getting hooked back up since they don't have telemetry units there because she starts moving a lot when I start contracting. I don't want another c/s but if the baby is stressing because of contractions I'd rather have a c/s and a healthy baby then VBAC and not.
btw, my OB did the coolest thing today, I have NEVER heard of a Dr doing this. He's a high risk guy, is only in on Thursdays and has a ton of patients to see. He'll take 1/2 an hour with you if you need it. None of this rushing out stuff. Anyway, he came to see me in L&D after I'd been on the monitors a bit, then because I had no idea where I was supposed to go tomorrow for my infusion he walked me down there, introduced me to the staff made sure they had the order, what time I needed to be there and did I need to preregister? The answer was yes, I had no idea where that was so he walked me across the hospital to show me and get me registered so I didn't have to deal with it in the morning. How cool is that? Yes he had a ton of patients waiting to see him and he took the time to make sure I would not have any problems getting my infusion tomorrow but he's also worried about my not getting the infusion because I'm so anemic but I know of no Dr much less OB that would go though that
