Sling Pattern

My friend is having a by in August and I was thinking about making her a sling and a matching diaper bag. The inly problem is that I do not know how to make the sling and was wondering if anyone has a pattern to share. a pattern for the bag would be appreciated too, I just do not want to be too demanding. Thanks for any help

I was just looking at sling patterns today...how funny. If you google free baby sling patterns it will bring up many choices. Not sure on the diaper bag, but I want to make one of those too, so I am going to see what I can come up with.

If you're doing a ring sling, I recommend http://www.slingrings.com/patterns.php for rings. Nice colors of aluminum rings.

FYI, I've made a couple of slings, and found that I wished I'd chosen my fabrics more carefully. The genuine maya wrap is much nicer than the one I made with discount aisle cotton from Joann's.

I am wanting to make one myself and thought maybe collen would have a good idea of the fabric to use. I am not sure what the genuine maya wrap uses, I followed the link, but didn't see what they used. I am wanting to make one for the baby due in May!

I've made four slings so far.

1. genuine chinese brocade from a chinese store, lined in cotton broadcloth
2. canvas from the decorators section of Joanns, also lined in cotton broadcloth
3. Joanns' oriental brocade, lined in poly/cotton broadcloth
4. polar fleece with a corduroy pocket and shoulder piece

I always make pockets for my slings. On the last two I started covering the stiches that hold on the rings with sleeves so I can just worry about making them strong and not worry about neatness. Since I use very heavy fabrics and often line them (so the baby is against a softer fabric) I always need the largest Sling Rings they make.

You might also check out http://www.slingmemommy.com/#_instructions_for_making Super easy to understand directions and the sling is much easier to sew that the ones that you pleat IMO.
Can't help w/the diaper bag, we just got ours from Land's End....

It was really quick and easy.

I used cotton gauze, though, and it doesn't slide through the rings well, it catches. I'm going to use the fabric for a pouch, and try another ring sling. I had read cotton gauze works well, but i think it's better for a wrap. We'll see how it goes on the pouch (I'm also going to line it).
