Abdomen pain... already?

I'm having serious pain in my abdomen. When I went in the other day my midwife informed me that the baby is unusually close to the surface of my abdomen. Could that be the reason? By around 4:00 in the morning I just can't sleep anymore because I feel like all my organs are being pinched inside my belly.

I'm only 11 weeks pregnant! This is ridiculous, right? I can't lie on my back because it feels like the pressure of my uterus squishes everything else. I can't lie on my stomach because... ow. So my side (which is the best anyway, I know that) is my only option, but I always roll over after falling asleep - thus the reason I keep waking up in pain!

I'm asking, I suppose, whether or not this is typical. I don't remember anything of this sort - at least this early - with my other pregnancies. Any suggestions?

Could you be having more than one baby? That is the only thing I can think of.

I was much farther along when this happened last time. I will see if I can describe the positions to sleep in that will be at least a little more comfortable for you.

1. Take a blanket or comforter and fold it over several times. Lay it on the bed lengthwise, so it would be right next to you. Instead of laying right on your back prop one side of you up on the blanket. You should still feel like you are on your back, but this takes the pressure off of your spine and tilts it to one side.

2. Same thing with the blanket but this time lay half your body on the blanket, belly down. There should be plenty of room for a growing belly as long as your shoulder and hip/leg are on the blanket. Your bottom shoulder will be at sort of an odd angle and that arm should be resting away from your body.

3. My all time favorite. You'll need 2-3 LARGE thick pillows. Kneel on the bed with the pillows in front of you. Put one pillow so that the top edge is right at your belly bulge with the bottom edge on your legs. Another pillow goes under your bust up to your head. You might want a third under your feet. If that's the case your knees will be bent and your feet will be higher than your knees. When your hubby complains there is now no room for him in the bed because of all the pillows just tell him he's lucky he isn't pregnant and since he can sleep comfortably in any position he wants without all the pillows you suggest the sofa might be a comfortable option.

Hope one of these works for you.
