"outside" bathrooming? - Page 2

: I think I would have given a lot to have the earth swallow me at that point.
But from a far more productive/educational perspective...how did you handle it?

Well! It actually got far worse.I Just said " oops! we cant pee here Ash!We need to find a place with privacy. Then I attempted to quickly pull up his pants. He has this thing you see, about needing to have his penis wiped before pulling his pants up.... and another thing about freaking out if there is a drip of pee on his pants. So as I tried to discreetly and quickly pull his pants up... he loudly screamingly tried to pull them off. So from a passer bys perspective it probably looked as though I was going to give him a bare bummed spanking or somthing. I probably should have mopped up the pee or somthing... but my main concern was getting my red faced self outta there!

I'm OK with it, especially in the OPs situation. Who the heck cares?
Yeh kids are smart but the learning process can be hard. Plus not everyone wants to see another person pee, much less smell or walk in it.

I'm in the ick camp.

Wwhen I was in grade school there was this kindergartener at the bus stop who wipped his weenie out of the side of his shorts and peed on the lamp post. I was horrified. I think you need to get the hang of where to pee before grade school. It's kind of good manners - like learning not to sneeze or cought all over everyone.

We do a lot of hiking so ds has and dd will have to learn to pee in the woods. There are, sometimes, pit toilets at the trailheads but we can easily be out for 4 or 5 hours with no toilet around. I've never had to use it but I do carry a small trowel to dig a hole for those #2's, which is what you are supposed to do.

I've told ds that peeing outside is for hiking and emergency purposes only - we've also had those "I have to go NOW!!" moments when we are on the highway and no bathroom nearby. We did have an incident at the park when he was 3. He said he had to go and dropped trou right there to pee. I told him we only do that when hiking and we needed to go to the restrooms. He said, "Oh, okay" and it never happened again. The only peeing I allow in the yard is when dd was outside, naked, while potty learning. Even then I had her little potty in the yard but she didn't always make it.

I think most school age children are very capable of understanding when you should or shouldn't pee outside. Preschoolers may need reminders, but at the end of the day I don't think the occasional outside pee is a big deal.
