Purchases

One of my big things is to not buy a whole lot for baby. I figure gifts and thrift store (CL, Freecycle) finds are the way to go. So, that is what I've been doing. Slowly adding to a collection of CDs and clothes.

The other day I spent the most on the baby. A whole $25! What, you might ask? It seems like a lot considering that I've been keeping purchases less then 5$ an outfit. I found it on Craigslist, slightly used.

I got a..............

Petunia Picklebottom Toddler Tote (can use as diaper bag if I want)
New Bag!!!

I'll probably end up getting a more practical diaper bag, but for now, I'm very happy with my new bag. DH was even impressed.

I just had to share.

Thanks for listening/reading about my find.

What print did you get? I want one!

I didn't buy anything for the last baby, so I'm going to buy some nice stuff this time round. I want a papason swing and a amby bed. Of course I probably won't buy either Just call me a tightwad

That is a CUTE diaper bag. *saves to baby favorites*

I'm refraining from shopping thus far, but I have a feeling that once DH is in Iraq I will be doing some major retail therapy.

I have a friend who's going to sell me her Amby bed so I have that lined up and I want to get a papasan swing too. I think those are so SO nice! I'm keeping my eyes open for used ones and since I have plenty of time I'm in no hurry to buy it new.

I'm also going to buy some good fluff for this newborn. I've got a good prefold stash as well as plenty of covers, but I want fitteds. I really like the swaddlebees newborn fitteds as opposed to the kissaluv size 0s I did with DS. I think I'll definitely be investing in some of those. I'm also hoping to buy a few SOS diapers used, but phew it's hard to grab those up!

Other than that I just need to buy a carseat. I've picked out the Britax Decathalon. I have a Marathon for DS and they didn't have a Decathalon when I was looking or else I would have bought it instead...it's much cushier and more suited for newborn use for only $10 extra.

Besides cute (used) clothes I think that will be all I'm going to buy...well at least if it's a boy. If it's a girl all that goes out the window and I'm going hog-freaking wild. If I have a girl I have a strong feeling that DH will be done it will be the last baby and face it, we all go a little crazy with our last kids.

I got the red bag, I think the link goes to that specific one.

milk_maker, I've seen the papasan swings on CL (at least here in WA, don't know about other areas) I don't know if shipping would make it worth your while or not.

I'd LOVE to splurge on CDs. As it is I've gotten some GREAT deals on CL, 17 covers for 10$, but, those are med and large sizes. I'd love to get some Kissaluvs etc... but, I don't wanna get too much 'cause I don't know what'll work best with the baby.

I totally need a handfull of things we didn't have or got rid of with our son...
I need a actual real diaperbag. I'd love a more $$ trendy one, but I don't even buy things like purses (I have one I bought 6+ years ago for 10 bucks) so spending that much on a diaperbag is *eep*
I think I may comission one of my wahm friends to make me one. Right now DS's diaperbag is a 5 dollar canvas beach tote, and his juice cup keeps leaking at daycare and soaking all his diapers! arg!!

I need a new bouncy chair. Bouncy chair is god. DH broke my son's when he was like 8-9m old I think, so we bought the bouncy/toddler chair version, but we need a small bouncy chair for the new baby...yk?

And i've learned to LOATHE my highchair. We didn't even use it until DS was over 1 because he was boob-only until then, but the stupid frick'n pad drives ne nuts! and it's falling apart!!

I want a wood 1 piece highchair that has no padding, darnit!

And my mom is gonna help me sew a nice skirt for the bassinet since I hated the cheapy vinyl and eyelet one it had. the skirt always dragged and got caught in the wheels!
I'm gonna use pul for the inside

Other than that though, the next baby has MORE than enough clothes (except gowns until recently. I loaned my DS's out and they got "lost" grr. my mom and I both went nuts a couple months ago and now there is about 10 for #2)

And Since DS was in medium diapers from like 5m until well, NOW...i've been slowly collecting newborn fluff since he was a small kiddo. We didn't do NB fluff because I figured he'd be on the large side and was too scared to buy any.
Now I know what to expect, weight wise (DS was 9lbs 5oz and 22")

I think i've pretty much got the small/nb stash complete *blush*

All my newborn dipes (I just updated it finially) and some pics of my 2yr old modeling a newborn KHW. LOL.

We're working on our stash of CD's for the new baby. We have a 13 month old in CD and we just started a month ago. So we defiantely need some NB ones. Have a wonderful wahm I am buying them off of!!!

We need to buy a convertible crib for my 13 month old, but we aren't getting that til February. Figure Bump will be in the bassinett til about 4 months, then Bump will go into the crib and we'll switch my then almost 2 year old into it and make it a toddler bed.

Need to get a new carseat. We'll prob get one that lasts from birth to 80 pounds. Those are so sweet.

We'll have to get some clothes if Bump is a boy. We have 2 girls that are almost 4 years apart and about the same size each month hehe.

And we need to get a mini van. No way we can fit a 3rd car seat in our little car hehe. Hubby is excited about this!!

Right now I am happily crocheted this baby's blanket. Each of my kiddies have one.

Hope all your planning goes well ladies!!

After two kids, I've learned that I spend too much money on my babies . . . but man, is it fun!

So far, I've only bought a bouncy seat/bassinet combo. FOund it brand new at a yard sale for 15.00 . . . it's the one I wanted for my daughter three years ago, but it was too much then (50.00 in stores). I was pleased with my deal!

For this baby, I need:

car seat
diapers and covers (going to cloth diaper this one)
sling (going to wear this one . . . I wore my daughter a lot in a Baby Bjorn, but I'd like to try a sling)

That's really all I need. I want a double jogging stroller for next spring/summer. We get season passes to an amusement park and it will come in handy for the younger ones, as well as for long walks and such.

What a fun thread!

I've already went through dd's baby clothes and we have about 25 outfits/onesies/sleepers that are gender-neutral, which is great! We won't have to buy any clothes until the baby is born and we know if it's a girl or boy.

We have our co-sleeper and bassinet, but will have to buy a new crib for naps. We intend to co-sleep for as long as we are all happy that way.

We have our old carseat from dd, so that's covered. And we have swing/high chair/bouncy seat if needed. Now, just for this diaper thing...

I am so undecided about CD. There- I'm out of the closet. We didn't with dd b/c I was spending 24/7 learning breastfeeding and could care less what she was eliminating in. Then as time crept by, I just figured it was too late and I didn't know anything about it.

So this time around, I think I'd like to try it. I have a very good friend who will show me the ins & outs, so I'll give it a try. I'm a wimp though and really want to do the AIO's even though they're $$. I'm afraid I will have too much to do around here to wash diapers all the time! Every one says how easy it is, so we'll see.

So anyway, I have to buy diapers.

That's it! I think...

OMG! I love to buy baby stuff.....especially baby clothes.....it's an addiction! Other than one itty bitty diaper, I really haven't bought anything for this babe yet, and franky, I don't need a ton.

We will be buying a toddler bed for dd sometime later this summer, so we can take the crib down and out of sight for a while before the baby comes. I have a bassinett, but dd really slept with use for the first 6 months or so and that is pretty much what we plan this time around, then we'll bring the crib back out and slowly transition lentil to his/her own bed.

Don't need a stroller, still have my infant seat from last time. Once this one gets too big for the infant seat (around 5 months for dd), we will get a bigger seat for older dd and lentil will use the convertible that she is in now.

Things I do need: CD's....we started dd when she was 3 months old, so I do have some little stuff, mostly prefolds, but I want fitteds this time around. I will be making MOST of our fitteds, but will probably buy a few special ones.

Some longies and soakers.....we use all wool on dd.

More gowns.....loved them last time around and want more this time.

A baby swing. We borrowed last time from a friend and I want one again. Dd loved it, even if it was just so mommy could put her down and eat once in a while!

A new sling....I'm smaller this time around and need something that will fit!

I think that's it!

Rachelle,

Cloth diapering really isn't that hard. We bought diapers with velcro that need a cover that has velcro on it as well, and some liners to go in them.

I wash my diapers every other day. First thing in the morning, I plop them in for a pre-soak, go have breakfast and do a morning of homeschooling. At noon, I go down and put it through a regular cycle, then one extra rinse with vinegar after that. (We also rinse our diapers under water and just hang them on the side of the bathtub, takes like 2 minutes... hey, I gotta wash my hands anyway!! Other mommies do either a wet or dry pail, this just works for us) I don't have the option of line drying, so I have to plop them into the dryer.

And Rachelle, I tell you, there is nothing sweeter than seeing your baby in a little puffy Cloth Diaper tooshie. We just started last month with our 13 month old and plan to with this coming baby. I have a post in the diaper forum with pictures of my kiddo in her CD... but to save time, I'll just post them here as well.

My hubby is also really good at helping me with the cloth diapers etc. They are so much better for your baby than having chemicals on their bottoms, better for the environment and over time on your pocket book as well.

I'd encourage you to try it and see if you like it. Even doing a combo of sposies and cloth while you get used to it is cool too. With the varieties and cute effective diapers they have now, I'm sure you will be addicted!!

I was a little apprehensive at first too, I must admit, but after lots of research and reading, I was convinced that this was the right thing for our family.

The only things, other than clothing, which always seems to take care of itself, that we really NEED for this babe are:

Cloth Diapers and
Car seat, actually the car seat will be for my almost three year old and the new babe will use her Britax Roundabout.

We were at Target today and I was looking at aisle after aisle of baby stuff, and I just couldn't see why on earth anybody would spend that kind of money for so much unnecessary stuff. We had way too much stuff for dd#1, we really bought into the idea that you need all that crap. Well, she arrived, and lo and behold, we didn'[t use much of what we were gifted or purchased.

I am really looking forward to buying lots of fluff for this babe, as this will be our first time CDing. So I expect most of our baby expenditures will be for dipes!

Love that bag.

I won't by anything until the ultrasound and we know everything will most likely be ok.

This time though I went ahead and got an Amby. Some one was selling it on MamaBarter and the price was just to nice to let it go.

If we have a boy we won't need much. I still buy some clothes, a couple special diapers but that's about it.

If we have a girl I'll be on a shopping frenzy. Girl diapers!! They are always so cute.
Well..we will be reusing most things we used with dd...we didn't know she was a girl so I have lots of green and yellow so I am set for the first 3 months! Have strollers, slings, toys, etc...but NEED cds since we didn't start dd until she was 13 mo...so I have been LOVIN' shopping for cds! I'm addicted!
I also need a car seat...I was going to use carly's old one that goes from 5lbs-40lbs that she is almost grown out of...and she would just use the one from the other car that converts into the kind you use the shoulder belt with...but we were in a car accident--and even tho there was NO damage to the car seat, I will go and get a new one...so we are up for a $150 purchase on this little one!
Otherwise, it will be pretty cheap to have him/her!

Well, there were sales at the thrift stores on Monday. So, I went shopping. I think this is the last bit of shopping I'll be doing for a long time.

I got some more baby-bags (one is tie-died, very cute), 4 baby hats, some t-shirts, a dress or two, a few jammies, and some overalls (i've got quite a few of those, but they are so cute). I'm sure there is more, but I can't remember.
They are in sizes 0 to 18 months, so I have a wide variety. I have quite a few clothes in 3-6 and 0-3 month sizes. So, I'm done.

Now I need to focus on Diapers and a few slings, but I think i'll see what I can do about sewing my own for those.

Which papasan chair are you all looking at? I'm just curious...we had a swing w/ DS that he hated. Maybe this will be better? Send me some linkies if you can - thanks!
