We went to some friends house yesterday for a BBQ.
They have this annoying as all hell husky, which for some reason, loves me. Everytime I set foot in their house this stupid dog is following me, sniffing me, licking my hands etc. It's very disgusting.
So yesterday I am standing in the kitchen, talking to my girlfriend, when I turn around to go change Weston, who I was wearing snugly in my rockin baby sling. He was sleeping. So I turn and didn't see that stupid f*$*@@!! dog LAYING right behind me and I TRIPPED over her.
Now this was one of those moments where it literally happened in a split second, but to me it seemed to be in slow motion - I had time to react and think about what to do, but it was more of an instinct thinking than logical thinking.
My left hand grabbed the baby's head and covered it and pulled it tight to my chest, while at the same time, I turned my body toward the right to not fall on him. My right hand hit the ground and pushed me even more sideways, and then my right elbow hit, followed by my knees. The move reminded me of a receiver hugging a precious football tight to his body so as not to fumble.
Fumbling a baby would NOT be good, especially on a wood floor. Thank GOD he was in the sling and not in my arms or I would have dropped him. Amazingly enough, Weston slept through the whole incident. I thought I squished him, but he was totally unhurt.
it really scared the CRAP out of me. Thank goodness for slings and momma instincts.
I am very sore today.

I'm so glad your mommy instinct took over and you were able to protect him but I'm sure it was still very frightening for you. I hope you feel better soon.

I hope you don't mind me jumping in here -- I saw your post on the New Posts page. It would be a very good idea for you to get checked out by a chiropractor. A fall like that can cause some pretty significant structural damage, even if you feel relatively OK now. Especially because when you were falling, you were protecting your baby (as I would, too) rather than falling “safely.” Glad everyone is OK
