I've always thought that okra needs heat to do well. That said, I did try it here--coastal California (summer highs 70s/lows 50s-60s F) in the sunniest place I could think of, in a raised bed (for warmest possible soil)--and it did OK. Not great, but okay. I'd probably try it again, but one of the difficulties I have with that is that my dh just wasn't, you know, enthusiastic about it.

I mean, I'm swooning over the prospect of pickled okra, and he'll barely eat pickles, let alone okra.

Common misconception about Canada *grumble*

Right now, where I'm at..it is 33 degrees Celcius.

Comox, can get upwards to 20 degrees celcius. Which Is pretty toasty but not uncomfortably hot. Not like here.

It's Considered Zone 8 if that's any help...

Well, after I wrote that last night, it occurred to me that I could have looked at a map!

I think you should go for it. The worst that will happen is you'll be out a little seed. The one thing I don't remember is what the growing season is--for the okra. I grew up in the south central US--Oklahoma, to be precise--and okra was something we just took for granted. Long growing season there, in general--March to October.

Well, we're trying it, here in the Interior. What do we have to lose? We bought a pack from Stokes for $1.50.
Basically, if you can grow good corn, you can grow good okra. It gets smokin' hot here (hotter than Dallas, Texas for most of the summer) so I really don't think it will be an issue. We are zone 3, BTW but zones only really matter for winter hardiness.
Comox does get toasty, IIRC so it should grow.
