My period has returned at 10.5 weeks post-partum! AAARGH!!! I'm so disappointed...last time I at least had 4 months' relief. And I'm EBF, too! Bleah. Stupid hormones...grumble grumble...

Sorry, just wanted to vent and get some sympathy!

I'm always happy to have my period, consider myself lucky. I celebrate it rather than other, more conditioned responses.

I'm one of those non-enlightened ones -- and I sympathize. For me, 2 1/2 months postpartum is a time I went to spend focusing on my baby, not my fertility. I know there's never any guarantee, but isn't exclusive breastfeeding supposed to stave off ovulating for a while? A natural built-in protectant against pregnancies spaced so close as to be hard on the mother? Is it just in our culture that women tend to get their periods back so soon? If so, I wonder what it is that makes it more likely?

EBF is a good way to keep the cycles away, but you have to be SURE to take one nursing nap a day, and co-sleep at night. The hormones that you produce while sleeping and nursing are the best way to keep the cycles away.

Mine returned at 8 weeks pp. Hence the little bundle of joy due in July.

Those are the best ways...but they don't always work...

Ugh! I'm another one who can sympathize with you. My cycle returned 6 wks pp and I was BF'ing. When DS was 8 months old (and still nursing) I found out were were expecting again - that's on top of using other methods of BC. I'm now 41.3 wks preggo and waiting for all the fun to begin again!!!

yep. I usually go 12 weeks, but after a tough labor, deliveringa big boy baby, and heavy bleeding after the birth, I got my period back at 10.5 weeks.

I got it back at 12 weeks while nursing THREE kids!

I'm tandom nursing and got it back at 5 weeks. Sometimes life just sucks. I was following all of the rules by the way.

You are right - it does suck and it is not fair I was lucky with my first two - I went 6 months and 9 months. After #3 - I ovulated at 10 weeks and started bleeding at 11 Then after #4 with tandem nursing she showed at 12 weeks
Celebrating your fertility and honoring your cycle is one thing - having to worry about birth control when you are nursing two babies 25ish times a day is another :

My daughter was born in October, and I got my period in November. I'm grateful to have it, but I was really hoping to get a break from it for at least a little longer!
