I would/could not do that to my children. I believe every human being is born intelligent. Comprehension is different than understanding.
IMO, the phrase I quoted is, in essence, telling your child they were not intelligent in the past.

Why, because I can't afford it, even if I wanted it? Libraries offer free reading material. I have never seen anything remotely pornographic offered at my library. So, if anyone is censoring porn from us, it is the library! :

why can't your kids also see whatever other media they want?
If it's free, they see it. We do have several places in the Twin Cities that offer free media. My children are in school and have gone on field trips to movies.

You know, I can't afford television. I grew up without it, and have never gotten it for my home. My decision has nothing to do with censoring. If my children visit others who can afford television, they are allowed to watch it. I don't ask others to censor anything.

If there's questionable material such as spanking references or stuff I think she won't understand, we use them as a jumping off point to discuss things. I suppose I wouldn't read a whole book if I thought she might pick up on something bad (for a while she thought the police were employed to shoot people and if you get stopped by the cops, they will shoot you; loooooong wretched mother in law story there), I might avoid the book altogether but generally I discuss whatever comes up.
