Allergic reaction.

So I'm deathly allergic to rubber. (which is why I am having a doctor prescribed home birth, lol, not many of those I bet). All kinds of rubber, tires, shoes, latex, some glues, just a lot of stuff. So during this pregnancy I can't go anywhere I've had a reaction before. I've been to petco plenty and never had a problem, and after feeling like a shut in (I go to Kroger and the park, that's about it), we decided to go today. Well I walk in and there is a kid blowing up and letting the air out of a balloon. So we move to the other side of the store. Then my heart beat goes all wonky (but I told myself it was just in my head cause I kind of have a big fear of balloons now since they can kill me), so we move again, and realize there are kids with balloons all over, then we spot displays of balloons all over. So we go out as fast as we can, but it's just too late at that point. So my heart was all wierd for a while and I was very dizzy and had trouble breathing. I didn't go into full anaphylaxis though (which is good) and didn't pass out. The dr. said as long as I don't pass out the baby would be okay. But it can take days to months to get over a reaction. This one was little so it will probably only take 3-5 days, but still, it's just a pain. It does put stress on the fetus, but not enough to do damage unless I don't breathe.

Normaly I just have a pretty "whatever" attitude towards my allergy. But it just hit me today how easy it would be for me or my baby to die from something stupid like driving by a car lot with balloons or something. I mean I never thought about people being allergic to something like rubber before I was, so I'm not expecting them to change because of it or anything. It just seems like a really dumb way to go. So I think I'm going to stick with my Kroger and park as the only places I go. Oh well, that's what internet is for, right.

Thanks for letting me rant, I don't like to complain about it in real life, so sometimes it's nice to dump somewhere else.

How scary!! I am glad you are alright. I have a latex allergy, but thankfully mine is no where near as bad as yours is. Our world is SO full or rubber products these days. I can only imagine how hard it is to avoid it.

I am so sorry you are having such a hard time. I have anaphylaxis to dairy and soy but luckily my allergy isn't airborne. I know this must be very difficult for you. Glad we can be here for you on the internet.
What do you do about maternity clothes? Don't they all have elastic of some kind?

yeh, I haven't figured the maternity clothes thing out yet. I definately can't do elastic. I cover my head and wear long clothes, so that also nixes a lot of options. I told my husband I am just going to become a nudist for the last trimester. He said, but won't it be december... darn, no nakedness for me.
I have a sewing machine and I think I'll probably end up sewing long drawstring skirts.

How scary, and how frustrating it must be for you! Hope that you recover from this reaction quickly!
