Have you started thinking of names? - Page 2

We have decided on Janae Jazmin for a girl and Melvin John for a boy. Melvin is my FIL's name and John is my dad's name so we'll call him Mel or MJ for short... and I just like the names Janae Jazmin and since my dh got to name the boy, I get to name the girl, but we aren't finding out the sex until birth!

We've decided on a boy's name (not telling- but it's after my fave philosopher) but we're up in arms with a girls name. Dh is fighting for Maya, but I'm trying to come up with more since Maya is getting so popular and it is not growing on me. So we're battling. i think it's a boy though so it's ok!

If it's a girl, our first choice is Grace Julianne..but I recently found out a close friend of ours is planning on naming her baby Gracie if it's a girl (and it's due in a month). I will be so, so sad, because we've had that name picked for four years. So we might still go with that, otherwise my #2 is Lilah Julianne (dh isn't sure about that). If it's another boy, I'll finally get to name it Henry! Middle name is up for grabs yet, probably Martin but maybe not. If dh vetoes Henry yet again, I'm pitching for a Levi!

LizaBear, I Wyatt. I have a nephew with that name, or else it'd be one of my boys'! I can't decide between your girls' names, though.

Well....we can't agree on anything. Sometimes we think we might like one, then one of comes up with why not. Anyway the current list of possibiliites looks like this:

Girl:
Lourdes Yareli (ee-are-eli)

Boy:
Emiliano David

Pretty pathetic list for people who can barely agree on those. I'm gonna have to hit some hispanic name sites.

We talked a bit, he shot down my favoriates, so I'll share those first:

Boy:
Talen
Stethanion

Girl:
Aviendah
Saavedrah
Simone
Siobhan

Our possiblities list:

Boy:
Reign
Bishop
Kaylix
Teotimo

Girl:
Reign
Joy (dh said yes just to humor me)
(that is all I can remember)

We're not in a big hurry. It is a really good topic for the car and that is where I keep the physical list. That conversation keeps me awake when we are driving at night.

We have similar tastes and so far we've been really civil (sp?) about the whole thing.

We'll probably just keep a good list and then decide when we meet the baby come december.

Oh... all middle names will be my maiden name (his family tradition), so I gave up on the flow of the name a long time ago.

For girls, I like Veronica May or Cora May. Cora's an old family name (nickname for Cunigunda, a great great great grandma), and May is DH's grandma's name.

For boys, I like Jasper __?__ or Sage __?__. DH likes Sage, but says Jasper sounds like the name of a miner - "like Jasper Jim or something" was his statement. I'm hoping it'll grow on him, though. :-)

OwennZoe -- There are so many beautiful Arabic girls names! I just spent a year in an Arabic speaking country, and really love so many of those names (Leila is very nice). Unfortunately, DH's last name ends in -a, and so do almost all of those names, so we can't use them- at least if they are 2 syllable names. I agree about boy's names being tougher. There are some great ones, but either DH and I can't agree on them, and in some cases, I am just reluctant to use them for a boy growing up in the US. I really hate it that I feel that way.

LizaBear .. I like your names. They sound sort of "wild west". I like Wyatt and Iris, especially.

Kritto- I also love Jasper, and my DH also hates it. Oh well.

natensarah-- ooh, I love Cecilia Louise. Cecilia is another name that my DH nixed.

We're definitely using Pennington as a middle name if it's a boy - it was my grandmother's maiden name and she passed away last year. DS has my maiden name for his first name, so it's kind of fitting. DH has this god awful name picked out that he wants to use as a first name, but we're still coming to terms on that one.

If it's a girl, it'll be Anna Lee - again, my grandmother's name. I've been thinking so much about her this pregnancy as I spent much of my first pregnancy with her b/c she was sick and in and out of the hospital and I stayed with her a lot. I'm sad she's missing it this time as I think she'd be more thrilled and less scared (she never gave birth - both my dad and uncle are adopted, so it was really freaking her out that I was planning to do it at home with no drugs/interventions. She was so proud when all went as planned).

Anyway, I digress, but we've definitely been thinking about it - actually, we were talking about it before we even got pregnant.

Thanks! My dh had a good friend named Cecil who died recently, so it would kind of be a tribute.

But I always think of that song. You know, "Ceciiillliiiaa, I'm down on my knees, I'm begging you please to come home." I have a friend who named her daughter Lola, and I do the same thing with her, and with my niece who is named Maggie. So I guess it's unavoidable.

haven't talked to dh about them yet- well actually I tried to, but he wasn't interested in talking names, I think he wants to wait until he is absolutely 100% sure we won't lose this baby before talking about anything baby.

but....

girl
Evangeline Faith

boy
Richard Gilbert (Dicken)

I have always been enthralled by names and what people choose to name their children, so I am having so much fun reading everyone's ideas!

DH and I have talked about names since we got married (mostly at my insistence ), so we have a few picked out. The boy name we will most likely use is Landon Bennett, although we are debating changing the middle name to Gabriel. I want to use Bennett because it was my Grandfather's name, but DH doesn't like it. DH actually picked out our girl name, and I really love it - Olivia Grace. We also like Brennan and Simon for boys, and Cassidy, Cadence (called Cadie), and Brenna for girls with the middle name being Cecelia.

Oh, this is so much fun! Now I'm all excited about names again, and I can't wait to find out what we have!

You guys, I am so jealous of you who have names picked out!

Mr. Dingo and I don't see eye to eye on names. He is super conservative when it comes to names and I am creative. It is crazy trying to find names that we both agree on. He even wrote a computer program to help us choose when we got in a really bad stalemate once and then we didn't like the name it spit out in the end haha.

We never came up with a boy name that we really liked. Lucky that both kids were girls.

We have a simple but cool last name that sounds really great with the right first name, so it is fun to come up with nice combinations. Selling them is the trick for me. He found a study somewhere that demonstrated that boys with nontraditional names had more social problems and substance abuse issues than boys with regular old names. I am sceptical about this study of his but he stands by it and it is the big obstacle in my quest to come up with a great boy name. Sigh.

I need the magic hypnotizing ring that the boys had in the "Captain Underpants" book..."You will like my names, you will like my names...."
