Hi

I prefelt before I dye my wool and I just use KA, wiltons cake dyes or regular food coloring. I make a dye bath with vinnegar water and the dye, heat it. While it is heating I soak the wool in vinnegar, water and a little bit of Dawn dish detergent and add it to the dye bath when it is hot stirring constantly. That is how I've gottent the most consistant coloring for my wool. HTH

Yes it does help.

What is this for? I presume the vinegar is to set the dye, but why soak it before adding it to the dye? Does it have to be Dawn?

I just read about dying wool on Dharma Trading Co. website. The directions seemed very complete.
