I have to take a what to the hospital???!!!

Been wondering if this is the real deal all afternoon and still don't know. Talked to my mom and while she will watch dd if I need to go to L&D (and yes : at me for inconveniencing her) she will not give me a ride to the hospital nor will she allow her DH to give me a ride because he's worked hard all day and needs his sleep. The only other person I could ask is out of town so she suggested I call 911 and take an ambulance. Its bad enough I have to have a hospital birth because of this dam anemia thing and baby not liking contractions but to have to take an ambulance too? This is ridiculous!

45 miles to the hospital x $2.50 mile = no way in heck!

Still waaay cheaper than an ambulance. And it can be awful hard to get insurance to pay for those.

Sorry to crash you DDC, but my family once got stuck with an ambulance bill; very expensive ride.

Don't be embarassed. My sis is a paramedic and she called last night to tell me that if I go into labor while she is on duty she'll take me to the hospital. I'm about 25 miles from the hospital, you're 45...take the ambulance!

Your mother needs a reality check. That's : . (OK, I've been waiting for a chance to use one of those new icons! But really, that's crazy.)

I'm so sorry that your mother is being so unsupportive.

The taxi sounds good to me, since my insurance (Kaiser) warned me (with the last little handout) that taking an ambulance in a non-emergency will cost me dearly (as in hundreds of dollars). And I bet they would qualify the delivery as a non-emergency, since you could have taken a taxi with the first itty-bitty little contraction you had. Notwithstanding that with every minute you spend in the hospital your risk of interventions rises...

So sorry for you. Does her DH know that she said that? Or does she make decisions for everyone?

Well ladies I went in for my 38 week appt Thursday and ended up getting a c/s because I was in early labor and baby wasn't tolerating it well so technically I drove myself to the hospital then drove myself home 36 hours after my section because my mom couldn't pick me up till the next day and I didn't want to stay another day in the hospital when I was more then ready to go home. Other then being tender I felt fine to drive although I'm sure most people think I'm nuts for driving so soon Seriously, the only meds I was on was Motrin and getting my cath and spinal hurt way more then my incision does.

Call the L&D at the hospital where you will be delivering they CAN help you find answers to questions like these. If there is a Mothers Group forming around deliveries or a hospital staffer who lives in your area you could still have free ride to the hospital if you just ask about it.
Have you asked at your Church/Place of Worship?
Dare I ask (Not a member of the June2006 group) will the childs Dad help you?

Crashing from another DDC. Congrats on your new baby.

I'm sorry you had to drive yourself home though (even though you are only on Motrin). Wish you had some more sympathetic help.

I don't know what would make me angrier, the fact that your mom said no to driving you to the hospital, not allowing her dh to do it or the fact that you literally drove yourself to and from your own delivery.

Congratulations on your new bundle!
