It has been a while since I have posted here! My 6 year old daughter has just in the past 2 weeks been complaining of very hot itchy feet (just between the toes) at night. Only at night, starting in the late afternoon and by bedtime it is unbearable and she is crying and unable to sleep. We have tried everything it seems. She has no redness or swelling or flakiness. Does not look like athlete's foot. It looks like a normal very clean foot (she insists on a cool foot soak to relieve itching). We have not changed diet, laundry soap, her shoes fit and I have been having her wear sandals and light socks. We moisturize her feet, put on Sarna cream ( a non-steroid itch cream) and a bit of lotrimin (doc says it won't hurt, but probably not the cause). She is taking Zyrtec for allergies, and this usually takes care of any itching too but not this time).
Every night for the past 2 weeks has been like this: soak feet of happy girl, read to an uncomfortable girl, try to lie down with a screaming crying itchy foot girl. I will go put baby to sleep and listen to her cry and scream at my husband then get up and make my husband go away and try to calm down my daughter, use cool cloths and ice packs wrapped in a towel and finally soak feet again then she is so exhausted she falls asleep.
She wakes up happy and not at all itchy.
I am at a loss and starting to think that it may be an emotional cause rather than some pathogen or allergy. Any ideas if anyone is still reading? What can I do to make it more comfortable for her?
