Yep, that's me for the past couple of days. I ran on Tuesday after work, just three miles, but in major heat and humidity...had bad seizures on the run, hard time breathing, and major fatigue... was BRIGHT red when I got home and DRIPPING with sweat... layed down on the floor and had a hard time moving. Started feeling sick soon after and started puking and pooping not long after that...lasted all night...fever, pale, clammy, didn't leave bed all day yesterday and had to come in today because I had a HUGE meeting about expanding my program and I had to present. In the past two days I've eaten two handfuls of baked lays, one cup white rice, a couple spoonfuls of cheerios and an oatmeal raisin cookie.
I climbed the mountain (this is what my husband and I call asking 1jooj for advice....because we swear that someday people will come from distant lands to climb a tall mountain to visit 1jooj and ask for her wisdom.) and she thinks it's major dehydration. So does my PT friend here at work. I can't decide if that's it or if its a bug. There's been some of that going around here, I guess.
Meeting went great, though, and the big boss came down to compliment me on my speaking and how I relate with people and yadda yadda. It was nice.
I have been trying to read here and there, but mostly I haven't been able to be upright for long enough...so I hope I haven't missed anything too urgent.

Reb - Sun stroke!!!! Dehydration!!! You poor woman.

I would climb a mountain to get words of wisdom from Jooj.

I've totally loved watching all the chatty posts today. You chickies crack me up. Don't diss on Microsoft too much. They just hired my brother. He'll be moving to WA within the next month.

And Mandy... you are so incredible. It AMAZES me all that you accomplish. I love your blog!

Every time someone mentions my marathon (the day after tomorrow!!!!) I feel slightly ill and my bowels churn. Lovely, huh? AF was supposed to be here Tuesday but hasn't shown up yet. I just may be using Jooj's idea of taping tampons to my race number. Or maybe my body will grant me some grace and wait until the day after!

cReb, glad to see your post. I've been wondering (and a little worried) about you since the big marathon. i may need to climb that mountain, too, one day.

grntmtnmama, i really just must bow to you again. i really don't understand people like you. i feel as if i'm on another planet. great marathon-relay photos, btw. fess up, which one is you? i love your knitting. and you work and you mother and you create websites. sheesh.

REb - I definitely 2nd the dehydration. That happened to me on several of my long runs when I was training for the marathon and it felt like the flu. It was awful!

MOnica - a little anxiety is a good thing, You'll do great!!

loftmama - how was that tea

: One paper done!!! It is teh one due today and I feel okay about it. The late one - well, let's just say that the instructor I had to submit that one to is a wonderful woman, but she probably hasn't even noticed I haven't sent it in yet I will finish it early next week. This course is not high stress and punctuality, thank goodness. We have longer integrative paper due in October and I am kind of looking forward to writing that one. The material we have covered this year has impacted me very persoanlly as well as learning-wise so I can't wait to see what comes out, KWIM?

ummm, nice, until i looked over and saw that my dear 2yo had decimated the aunt's begonias. : dh is running and i'm tuning out the kids. time for me to find a new smiley --> :

pulled over at a farmstand today and bought fresh spinach and fresh strawberries. does a spinach strawberry salad sound good???

I found the jpg on the net and resized it to fit.... I just thought it was cute and fit and all.

It's thundering and lightening right now, and I will STILL get a wog in when dh gets home at 6:30. Although it'll probably pass by then.

wow - chatty bunch!

not sure if it is hot and sunny everywhere else, but it is dreary and : here again today. well, it is the pacific northwest after all. it's mossy for a reason!

i would totally climb 1jooj's mountain. wait, that sounded.. well, i mean, i would seek her wisdom definitely

creb - so has the cattiness has subsided at work? right on!

loftmama - how's life on the road? is NH the place to be for you next?

eksmom - can you add that sept 9th 5k for me? party run

well, i spent the day waiting for one POD to be picked up and another, empty one to be dropped off. so...i knitted these
baby rocker booties for my friend [who lives in vermont!] that's about to have a baby girl. she'll be channeling her inner joan jett!

more later...no running for me unti the weekend, i have a feeling

Just did about 2.5 miles of grumpiness. Legs felt like bricks and mind wasn't there. It's totally the anxiety about the 1/2 marathon. I have wanted to complete one for 8 yrs now and getting to this point is so much more than about the physical exhertion. It's been about reclaiming me. Since I first got the dream I've been through so much that drug me down and buried the person I wanted to become. Getting here, 3 days away and looking at all the changes that have occured in the last 8 months it is still a little surreal. A friend sent me a picture of me and the kids at a party we went to recently and I realized I look completely different. I have lost all this weight and look like a runner now. My sadness isn't quite so deep. I've made more friends recently than I had in the past 5 years of living here. It's amazing how a little thing like running has done so much. And you all have been such a big part of that 2bbs

Hey ladies, can I come out of lurkdom and join you all? I promised myself I'd pipe up when the thread turned over...

I just started running again this spring. Years and years ago I ran short distances and hurdles on my HS track team and played soccer but used to run long slow distance for fun. I am enjoying getting reaquainted with my athletic self but having to balance the competitve streak in me with getting back in shape after being out of shape for a really, really long time. I'm halfway through losing 60 (!) pounds and probably will not train for speed until I'm much closer to having all that weight off, but I am running my first 5K at the end of July. (and I'm already nervous!) My big goal is a half marathon next September.

I've been lurking for a while and you've all been really inspiring to me. I see you are very active posting and I know I will run hot and cold on that.

I do have a question for any of you nursing runners--do you do anything special to keep yourself hydrated? I feel like between the heat and my wants-to-nurse-like-a-newborn-almost-two-year-old I am having more trouble with this than I ever remember having before. I pound the water but I don't eat a lot of salty foods and I think that might be a bit of an issue. Also, any tips for keeping kids content in the jogging stroller? My DD barely has patience beyond about a half hour, which doesn't get me very far as slow as I go these days...

come on, poppy--climb it! You KNOW you want to climb it!

(and I did type it "poopy" again. always do.)

I got another 4ish miles on the bike with trailer. Still would like a run, but dh seems to be awol. If he's back in an hour, I go.

Our street has major group rummage sale tomorrow. I'm cruising rummage sales with a SAHMfriend, maybe even on our bikes with trailers. Cool.

I'm craving iced tea. Must be summer.

okay ladies, I just got back from a fun mtn bike ride with another woman here at the office. it's 7:15 and I need to knuckle down and finish this invite so i can send it to the printers and go home. i designed it to go out via email, but the discovered I only had emails for 50% of the people and the thing was all in 72 dpi - which means start from the beginning to get it up to printing quality. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (too lazy to use the smilies )help me out here and tell me to get to work and get it done!

Welcome, Balancin1! I never have much better luck than 45min in the jogger, unless they fall asleep. Which is like never. I actually weaned dd a bit before 2yo. She was nursing A LOT, due to an overseas trip we made when she was about 18mos, and I was done. I ran through a summer first, though, and I think I just drank a lot a lot a lot of water.

When I ran with the 2 kiddos in the jogger that summer, I usually ran at their breakfast time. I made them a sandwich-y or snacky breakfast, with drinks in sippy cups, and they were busy eating for the first 20 minutes or so. Then, if they had a little more in them, I could keep going. Also, conversations with them seemed to help some, and encouraging them to sing ABCs and stuff to me. I would also sometimes stop at a park and give them a play break (when I could stretch and maybe do some crunches etc.), and then get another 1.5 miles or so in.

It's really important to have electrolytes as well as water, regardless of whether or not you are BF. That's why sports drinks are much better than water for long-distance running - drinking too much water with out electrolytes is really dangerous. Check out this link: http://www.racewalk.com/Racing/NutritionDuringRace.asp And I discovered the hard way that gels usually don't contain enough electrolytes - I think using gel instead of sports drink contributed to my puking the last 10 mi of the Detroit marathon...

Oh, and we've started running our kids to sleep in the evenings

Ok, I've found the document, ppt keeps taking it back, but at least I know how to retrieve it. Some odd bug that probably hits when the file size gets to be a certain size. My other poster isn't having problems. I gave the final for my class today. As soon as I go through 3" of grading (yes, the stack is 3" thick...), I'm done until fall. I also endured 2 3 hour faculty meetings in 2 days. Needless to say, I'm sick of my job this week.

I don't normally have allergies, but the pollen the last week or so even has me down. Poor dh just goes from one : to the next :

I was gonna go running tonight, but the thunder and lightening have kept me home.

Someone asked about a geek trip to SF. We go the second week of December. I'll be there this year. kerc?
