Hi there! Another newbie with a question or two!

Hello all! Boy, it's been a long time since I checked out this board, what with my youngest out of diapers and all! However, I'm now expecting twins sometime in August, and I'm back!

I am planning on using a lot of cpfs and covers in the beginning vs. making a lot of fitteds (although that hasn't stopped me from making 6 tiny little nb fitteds! ), and I'm starting to think I'm brave enough to tackle covers vs making them! Gasp! lol

So, here's my question, when making a PUL cover and using FOE, which size FOE do you prefer? 1" or 5/8"?? The 1" sounds like it's going to be kind of big--am I right? I just want to get some opinions first before I order any. Or, should I just turn and topstitch and forget the FOE?

Also, anyone have a favorite PUL cover pattern? I was planning on just copying one that I have, but of course, just thought I'd ask!

Thanks so much!! I really appreciate any and all input!
Have a great day!

I haven't tried it myself, but I've read that the advantage of wider FOE is that its easier to sew... since it's bigger it's harder to miss. But if you're a better seamstress than I am, it might not matter

I prefer the 5/8, especially for little ones. You're right, the 1" is kinda big! PP is also right, though, the 5/8 is a tiny bit trickier to sew, but if you're a person who "sews" (you know, has a "stash", has to only bring a set amount into JoAnns when you go...have some time under your belt), you shouldn't really have an issue with it at all, it just takes a bit more attention while stitching.

I made my own cover pattern from my nikky covers. I love them the best, especially on TINY butts, cause they're snug and NEVER leak, and I never need pins or snappis, even with cpfs. Twins, huh? Have fun making all those covers!

Thanks so much for the input! I'll have to check out that pattern, I do have a feeling we'll be diapering tinier buns this time around being that they're twins.

I'm what I call a 'so-so sewer'--I'm totally self taught and hadn't sewn a thing until I started sewing diapers. I've made some fitteds with great sucess, jammie pants and a few dresses, but when it comes to covers--the only luck I've had is with butt sweaters and those weren't the prettiest if you kwim. lol However, I've ordered some PUL and I figured it's worth a shot!

Thanks again! Not sure if I already asked this question (sorry, pg brain X2! lol), but has anyone made a PUL cover with the elastic hidden? Ie: turned and topstitched? If so, did you have any wicking problems?

Have a great day!

"I'll have to check out that pattern"

Duh! I meant I'll have to see about getting my hands on a Nikky cover! Geez, I've really lost my mind! LOL

Thanks again!

I've used the Diaper Cover Deluxe pattern and really like it. Well, I've sewn a bunch, and the pattern was easy--I made them for a friend and she really likes them (so she tells me ) I made them out of PUL and used strips of PUL for binding (1" wide) and then 1/4" polybraid elastic. I got 8 covers out of a yard of PUL, including the binding strips (I did have to piece some of the strips to make them long enough, but I am also a quilter, so piecing binding is expected for me ie NBD!) I had elastic on hand that I got for $0.14/yard so I figure out that each cover cost $1.50. Oh, I got the PUL from Sewzanne's. I have only used 1" FOE and I like it. I think using anything narrower would be too much for me! Also, the nice thing about the DCD pattern is that is includes a wrap style cover, a pull on cover and a side snapping cover.
