Do you know of any speech therapy scripted type programs that parents can use for articulation problems? I'm looking for my 8 year old. Thanks!

Oooh, I want to know the answer to this too. I just put in a call to our old speech therapist to reluctantly bring ds in for some articulation problems, but I sure would rather handle it at home.

Not sure this first one would be good for an 8 year old, but it might have some stuff you can use.

You might also be able to find something of use here.

When we did speech therapy with my son, we took him in for weekly appointments but most of his work was done at home. Maybe you could do that, or even stretch your appointments out to every two or three weeks and have his therapist guide you on what to do at home?

My dd has articulation issues as well. We get a lot of stufffor her so that I can fill in the gaps between visits and over the summer. Go to www.superduperinc.com and order a catalog for free. They have tons of things that you can order for in home use. It's a great resource to have. We have the Webbers Articulation Drill book and a few other items.

thanks you all!

luvnmommyhood, i just ordered some folder games from superduper and i got something from www.linguisystems.com as well.

i know where his issues are so i think i can do a lot to help. it really sucks that insurance companies normally deny speech therapy as they consider it an educational issue not a medical one.

with all the other stuff we do for my son, speech is just not in our near future. we just finished the eval with our public school and they will give him some services next year. speech will be one, but it might be 1/2 hour of group 1-2x a week.

Definately talk with the speech therapist and see what she can give you to do at home. My DD went to speech for articulation for about 6 months this year, once per week for 1/2 hr with a group of 3-4 k-1st graders at a local public school. Her speech therapist was very homeschool friendly and helpful. I sat in during the session and took lots of notes, and then did many exerices the therapist recommended at home. DD has since "graduated" and we're done with speech for now. Good luck!

Thanks for the link! I'll check into it.

I don't know if you think it'll make a difference but, if at all possible try for one on one sessions for speech. DD had a few and she didn't get the same attention she does 1-1. With the sessions being 30 min, by the time the kids get settled and they begin to focus on the issues of the group it's time to go home. It has helped dd in a huge way having the individual attention even once a week.

Definately get involved in the sessions. It's a lot of fun and a great way to learn how to supplement (sp) at home.

we did speech through the school, by bringing him in one day a week for a half our, and she gave us stuff to do at home.

I've read online about an association called Nathhan. They carry a line of books called Straight Talk. One book is geared for kids who need extra help with pronunciation, and the other is for more rigorous speech therapy.
