Spider/Bug Bites (X-post)

We live in an old leaky house on the river. Spring always brings tons of mosquitos, spiders and other bugs into the house. Dh, Ds and I have been waking up with tons of bites lately. I kinda feel like it's just part of living on the river, but DH is really concerned and being a pain. What can I do to get rid of the bugs (aside from fumigating the house which I refuse to do)? I need responses fast because DH is being a real you know what about it all! I'd prefer something as all natural as possible.

There's a garlic spray you can get for the yard that sort of works for a while, then you have to reapply.

Can you have animals? Guineas, chickens? They'll eat bugs. Folks say that they never see a tick again after guineas move in. I don't know what animal is best for mosquitoes. Oh, maybe bats?? You could put in a bat house.

ETA: what about those electronic high-frequency repellers? They have them in the Gaiam catalog. You wear one on your belt. Supposed to be very effective.

HTH? I'm interested in others' answers, too.
