Bum Sweter for NB ?

I went to goodwill and purchased a few sweaters to convert using this pattern: http://www.borntolove.com/frugal-column2.html

But I am wondering about how big around the legs should I make it? What size should I make the leg cuffs?

No baby to measure yet, so I was wondering about how large you would make it?

HMMM good question. I myself would shrink the cuffs a little. Because the leg hole will be smaller, you would use a smaller triangle for a newborn than a 6 month old. You don't want it too small though because the baby will grow out of it fast. The bum sweater is just a barrier between the dipe and you, so if it's a little too big that's ok. I have a sweater that has cuffs 3" in diameter. I probably would leave as is( you could take it down to 2" by cutting it apart and then sewing back together an inch closer) I just wouldn't strech it out while I was sewing it like I would for my 15 mo old. If you want you could just leave the cuffs off, make the leg holes a little smaller so the dipe wouldn't come out the hole and just hem the raw edges of the leg hole, they would fit better under tose cute newborn outfits as you wouldn't get the "shorts" look. Hope that helps and maybe someone else might have more opinions. Have fun.
