how breathable is Pul?

i'm a big fan of breathability, and i use fleece and wool covers for my babe because i imagine these are materials i would personally feel comfortable in.

i was wondering, what does pul feel like? does it feel like raincoat material? when i was a little girl, i hated raincoats, i am still not fond of the way they feel....i guess i'm imagining PUL to be similar, and this is what;s keeping me away from it....is this comparison totally wrong?

I have never used pul because my daughter gets rashes easy and so quite a few people here suggested not to use pul for her do to the breathablity and that it is like plastic shower curtian material. However I did read on one of the posts that there is a breathable pul, not sure what that is made from or feels like. I too use wool and fleece for the same reasons. Alot of the mommas here just love pul though.

Pul feels like...

I just started the whole cding venture. I ordered a couple of FB's and I believe they have pul on the outside. It's soft kinda polyestery feeling material with a little stretch. It's not yucky at all. I'm just having a hard time getting over not changing it each time if I use cpf's. Won't it smell like pee after a while?

After the plastic coating gets soaked it smells like pee, but otherwise, it's pretty non-smelly.

I personally have only used PUL for 2 kiddos and am just now getting into wool for the new one coming. Fleece never worked for us (no matter what it was) b/c of the wicking problems. My boys pee a LOT (tons) and fleece never cut it for us.

I had a side snapping cover style for my boys and it had breathability really well - the waterproofing isn't so thick that you get the crunchy raincoat feel - but it's more stiff than regular fabric of course. 1 mil PUL is a bit softer than 2 mil but I like 2 mil b/c it a) holds up better b) is more waterproof and like I said, my kiddos pee a ton.

It's not wool or fleece, but it had great properties all its own. I say get a diaper cut of it and make a cover or AIO and see how you like it... then you're not committed to a whole yard should you hate it.

Do they sell pul in any other place besides the internet? And does any other type of clothing use pul in it, or is it strictly only found and used with cloth diapering?

I get lot's of my cd materials and fabrics from the thrift store, but as soon as I am able, I think i will just purchase a small cut of Pul just to see what it's like, just to satisfy my curiosity.

PUL is only available online at places like www.diapershop.com or www.wholefamilymarket.com

THe PUL I've used it plastic coating on one side, but soft fabric on the other, so the side next the baby's skin isn't "sticky", like you get when you sit on vinyl car seats, kwim?

Often water resistant coats have something very similar (some people even 'harvest' it out of the coats and use it as a layer (hidden in this case)) to be water-resistant.

The best place just for one diaper cut would be online simply b/c it's fast, easy and you'd get it right away. I bought a bunch from a co-op but I'm still waiting (and I purchased it at least a month ago) for it to arrive, be cut and shipped to me.

There are some places on ebay that sell for good prices. I like this woman the best: http://stores.ebay.com/Daigle-Fashio...QQftidZ2QQtZkm This is her "by the piece" section but she has lots of great PUL. The print ones are best used with FOE (fold-over-elastic). She ships fast and is great... I bought several pieces/yards from her several months ago.
