Too much water for a veggie garden?

I'd like to plant some veggies in a square foot garden, but I have automatic sprinklers that go off every other day, and the only really sunny spot I have for planting veggies is right where a lot of water lands! That's bad, right? Would I be better off growing things in pots on my deck? What does well in pots besides tomatoes?

I love container gardening! Most anything can grow in there... I have one with 2 zucchinis, another (that doesnt' drain well) with celery and lettuces and one with cukes. You can put a trellis behind the container and grow beans, peas or cucumbers. Peppers and herbs do well too.

i water my square foot garden daily and it is flourishing. i'm in georgia and it's already hot here so the water is needed. your water needs will likely depend on the heat. but, again, too much water is not a good thing.

also, if you are using peat moss in your soil mix, you'll want to make sure you keep the soil pretty damp. if the peat moss dries out, it actually repels water. next year, i don't think i'll add the peat moss for this reason alone.

you can grow tons of things in pots. i've even seen lettuce grown in a windowbox.

You also can fairly easily change the type of head on your sprinkers, or change the direction they spray. We've done it all over the yard. Of course, my husband is the one who has actually done the work so I can't elaborate exactly how it is done - but it isn't hard.
