I grew a pea!

...and my son ate it

Can you tell this is my first attempt at growing food?

We've had some really good rain/sun (well, me-remembering-to-water/sun) time, and when we were out in the yard this afternoon I realized my snap pea plants actually had snap peas on them! I was able to pick a couple, and DS and I shared them. He even ate some of the pod, once the neighbor's 16-year-old came over to see.

Cool! DS (2.5 yrs old) planted the peas this year and LOVED eating them. We finally had to pull the plants out because they had all died and he was so sad and still goes to the garden and asks for the peas. But now we have tomatoes on the plants and he's getting excited about those...

Isn't gardening fun?!

I was harvesting the snowpeas and a few regular peas. DD did not care for the snow peas, but went nuts when DH opened a pod and the two of them started snacking like crazy.

Me thinks freezing them this year will not be an option...

Yay!

We learned yesterday that sugar snap peas are an AWESOME breakfast when pikced and popped straight into your mouth!

YAY! My son gets so excited harvesting the vegetables. He says "I like tomatoes!" and "I like zuchinni." However, when we come in side and I serve it up he refuses to eat it.

veggies straight off the plant are the best. I have 4 rows of 4 different kinds of peas this year. Our pea plants grow very tall and produce insane numbers of peas. I'm 5ft 4 and they get taller than me.lol

I wish my peas would get that tall! It's getting to hot here in TX already, though. I'll take what we can get, though!

My kids like to grate zucchini and summer squash so we can freeze it. Well, last year they got a bit tired of it (we had 32 plants---WAY too much!). They won't eat it much, except in muffins, though. And i put it in pie, smoothies, and spaghetti sauce and they don't know it, lol. I just breaded and fried some for what I thought would be a treat (we don't eat much fried stuff, but I did bread it in ww flour and ground rolled oats and fried it in coconut oil so I didn't feel so guilty, lol), but they only forced down one stick each. Ah well. Muffins it is.

I am drooling over those green tomatoes dripping off my plants, though! I wish they'd hurry up and get red!

We had way too many radishes so I had to get way creative w/those recently, but we only threw a few to the chickens. And my horse ate a few, lol.
