The dirt here is very hard & about the only thing that grows here is iceplant & weeds, grass is even hard to comeby. So I want to try a veggie garden in containers, but I have no idea where to even start. Also I don't know if this is a good time to try it either since it is SOOO hot (100's over the weekend, but slightly cooling this week) Any advice would be appreciated, ie what to plant, what type of containers etc...

I am pretty sure any type of container will do well but you might wanna stay away from clay pots b/c they tend to get warmer and dry out the soil faster.
You can plant all most anything as long as it will do well in your zone.
What types of things do you want to grow??

How do I find out what my zone is? I told you I have no idea where to start

Anything really: tomatoes, yellow peppers, carrots, cucumbers, squash, herbs (cilantro, parsley, basil etc..) garlic, onions, strawberries, lettuce, broccoli, melons, and I am sure several other things I can't think of at the time
