garden full of red ants!

so i have two gardens and started weeding and digging up the earth, planted a couple of tomato plants and moved to another area, dug a little and noticed a couple of red ants and than more and more! So i screamed for the kids to get in the house (yes a little dramatic but ewwwww!) plus the mosquitos were enjoying dinner on me! Is this something i have to live with or any natural way of getting rid of them?
thankyou for any help.

anyone??? Hellooooo!!

I just posted this same question & included the link to that thread below.
I asked the women who runs my CSA yesterday & she said that she decided that ants don't bother her. Just be careful that you don't get them on you because the red ones bite. I'm afraid that they are going to do damage to all of my hard work & eat my bounty! I'd still love to hear what others have to say. BTW I don't see a "hill". Just a few ants walking around but then they had a tunnel right along one of my bean plants!
