Waterproof Jean Diaper?

I've saved a few pairs of jeans from the donation pile in hopes of making some recycled diapers a la Fern and Faire. It would be my first foray into diaper making and I have a question for you experts.

Seems like a jean outer with an absorbant liner/soaker will be cute and suitable for outwear with a t-shirt. I'd hate to put a cover on top of it just to prevent leaks. Is the denim substantial enough to avoid leaks or should I put a layer of PUL in between if I want water resistance. Will this add too much bulk to an already somewhat bulky design?

I've been toying with the same idea. I'll probably add a hidden waterproof layer to make sure it will hold, with serged or bound edges to avoid problems of bulkiness. However, it *may* work without the wp layer as a day AIO, as denim is kind of hard to soak, but I wouldn't trust it for nights, naps or going out

Just my 2c

I've heard some people say that denim diapers take longer to soak through. But I've made several and unless you're changing them almost as soon as they're wet, they will soak through. I haven't personally noticed it taking much longer than any other diaper. But maybe my DS is just a super soaker!

I have made some jean diapers, a couple even being fitted pockets. They get WET just like the rest. Although they are so cute they aren't waterproof or resistant so either pul under the jean or cover up unless just hang around outside.

Sounds like I'll be using a PUL interlining. Thanks CD mamas for the tips!
