keep the babes barefoot! - Page 2

Yeah, my DH says it's probably due to snow, but it's just unheard of to wear shoes in the house there, so he never thought about why. He was born and raised (until marrying me) in Edmonton, AB where it gets like -30 degrees with windchill in the winter.
Needless to say, he is now a Californian.

Sorry to go off topic of FEET.

I didn't put hard soled shoes on Kearnan until he was three and I will probably wait longer with Tharen. Kearnan is a tiny guy, but his feet are huge (he inherited my feet ) Tharen is totally opposite. He is a big chunk, but he has tiny feet. So most brands of soft soles will continue to fit him longer. I know that Soft Star shoes make all sizes, up through large adult sizes. They make moccasins that have soft leather soles, and then shoes with soft crepe soles, so a little more protection for an older child. Moss feet shoes go all the way up too. The problem is that they get rediculously expensive as they get bigger. I did buy Kearnan a pair of Moss Feet shoes with a Green Man embroidery for Christmas, but he won't wear them out of the house. He is so used to regular shoes that he thinks they are slippers. During the summer he wears sun strider rope sandals that are nice and soft, but during the winter he wants his Yu-gi-oh sneakers. Tharen has only ever worn wool booties or soft leather shoes, and now that it is summer he doesn't wear anything on his feet. I have some nice soft leather boots for him for this winter, and I will probably get him some soft star moccasins too.

Yep, I grew up in a no-shoes house, too, and so that's how my house is. We come and go through the garage, and have a big wall-mounted shoe rack organizer out there. It's really nice because we never have to hunt down missing shoes.

As far as soft-soles for bigger kids, here's the top of the range for some of my favorite brands:

Bear Feet - *youth* 3 - that's huge!
Gucio - Euro 28 - approximately US 12
Jack & Lily - about a 12
Pedoodles - about a 10.5
Preschoolians - about a 12.5
See Kai Run - 9

DS1 is 5.5 yrs old with humongous feet, and he can still wear Bear Feets, with a couple more sizes to go. They are mega pricey, but I find good deals on eBay every now and then.

And Kristin, some of these brands look just like "regular" shoes, so no CCP would be able to tell a difference.
