Good pediatrician

We've been with this ped for years, but rarely go in. I hate the other doctors in his office, but he's the kind of guy that hears what I need/want, gives it to me and doesn't offer any parenting advice. I had to take my oldest son in today for a medical release to ride horses for his therapy and I happened to bring up that I might have a homebirth and when do I need to do the PKU, he didn't bat an eyelash, just told me they like to do it right after birth because there's some stuff they can catch then, and then after 5 days, after a couple good feedings. He left it up to me if I'd get both tests, didn't say a dang word out of line. Never has batted an eyelash about vaccines either.

sounds like a great ped! but why 2 pkus? we only got one at 11 days (of course, the hospital we went to freaked out that we didnt get it "in the hospital" (which we were never at. lol!)). sorry for the run on sentence, but im just wondering if 2 are necessary? of course, if your child isnt bothered by it, i guess its no big deal. E wasnt bothered and nursed right through it, but ive heard other babies have problems with it.

He said there is stuff that they can catch with the first one, and the earlier the better, and then the 2nd is needed to be done after a few good feedings to catch the other stuff. I don't know how much of that I believe, and I'm not personally worried about it, so I'll probably just do the later one so I'm not taking the baby in, brand new, with all those germs. At least at 5-6 days, he'll have had a new nursings to help keep him healthy.
