I signed the refusal form and now I want it back!

I'm freaking out about this. I can't believe I signed the form (it's the standard AAP form with the terrible clause.) I guess I was so relieved that the doctor didn't give me a hard time during our vaccination discussion that I just wanted to get out of there. There is no excuse. I should not have put my name to something I had any problem with.

So my question is can I get it back? Do they have to give it to me by law so I can revise it or use the substitute form? I feel so bullied right now. How dare they try and make me seem like a bad parent.

I would just say that you needed to review the form, then tear it up when they brought it to you. It's part of your child's medical record now, so they have to let you see it.

If it really bugs you I'd ask for it back but I wonder if they make copies of everything?

If you don't mind sharing what did it say? Just something to say that you know the risks of not vaccinating? I'm wondering how common it is to have a ped request one... my kids haven't been to the Dr's for a long time but I need to bring my youngest in sometime soon.

The form she's talking about specifically states that the parents are aware they are endangering their child by not vaccinating. I'd never sign anything that said I was endangering my child.

Yes and it also said that other children are in danger as well because of my decision. I guess I will wait until his next checkup even though I was thinking of skipping it. I really want to go there in the morning and just ask for it straight out but don't know if that is the best approach. I wonder if the receptionist would give it to me. I don't want to cause any unnecessary conflicts if I'm going to continue with this Ped and going there w/o an appt. might seem a little overboard to them. It's my own fault for signing it in the first place.

i guess i would ask LI for her input on this, but i think what i woudl do is write a revocation to the ped.'s office. list what you signed, and state taht upon reflection, you are revoking that document. if you have the desire, list whatever you agree with and put that in the statement of revocation/amendment of refusal to vax, or whatever you would like to call it.
my reasoning for doing this is that even if you get a copy of the form, they will likely have the original. i dont think they are going to hand you the original form for you to tear up, and it is basically their property at this point and i dont think that would be a very good solution for you or your r/s with the ped. (if you even care about continuing that).
BUT, if they have in writing a statement of revocation of the form, then it cant be used against you b/c you have revoked it. im sure there have been problems with ppl signing those statements, but they cant use it for anythign after the date of revocation b/c well...it isnt effective anymore. kwim??

thats JMHO.

good luck!

This is the portion of the refusal form which may cause problems down the road. I'm not saying it will, but it's entirely possible:

I know that failure to follow the recommendations about vaccination may endanger the health or life of my child and others with which my child might come into contact.

Since the form is new, we don't know yet if it will be used against a parent . . .think child custody cases and immunization: Loving husband and father agrees with mother to keep child vax free or delay; father turns out to be a d*ck and parents divorce; father then decides he wants *his* child vaccinated because he feels his child is not protected and his health/life may be in danger . . . YWIM?

I would either request (in writing) to have the form removed from your child's file and placed in your possession because you don't agree with the paragraph (state above) or ask for the form to be amended . . . crossing out the potentially damaging paragraph while you are present. If he refuses to do either of these two things, then I would send a letter (return receipt) documenting your objection to the letter.

Yeah, I did the same thing and I'm tempted to ask them to amend it or get rid of it...and if that doens't work I think I'll jsut ask to see it and rip it up lol

I know there's some that you can print up to take with you that DON'T talk about endangering your kid, and I know they're on anti-vax sites, but does anyone have a direct link to any of these?

how long ago did you sign it?? I know you have 24 (maybe even 48) hrs to revoke any purchase made over the phone, or presented to you unexpectadly.

Maybe that same law could be used in your case. You were presented with something on the spot and let the circumstance get the better of you. You should have been given time to read it ove and think about it.

You could use that excuse.....I would like to review the form that I signed last time I was here, could I have it to read over please?

It might be their's to keep now. Just like how medical records are legally the doctor's property.
