MW said INDUCTION!!

I am 39 weeks by my calander and 38.3 by my MW.My mom said to fudge a little when i first went to the DR( before i switched to my MW)
MW said she was didnt think it would come to that (I was 2-3cm and 75% effeced last week)but that if i go the 40 weeks they will do a stress test and at 41 weeks then they will do an ultrasound and at 41.3 they will induce: I asked how and they said they use some ballon thing, I didnt even asked about freaking pitotin,i was too freaked to even think about it! I DO NOT WANT TO BE INDUCED. I have started taking Evening Primrose to thin my cervix ( by mouth and vaginally)
I told my little sister when we were leaving the office that i think Violet just doesnt want to be born at the hospital, two times i have been having pretty srong contractions for HOURS, 5-6 minutes apart,i go in and the contractions just stop.
WHen i get to 41 weeks i will see an accupuntorest ( i know that is spelled wrong!!)
I am freaking bad and after i told DH he is too.

I know this is easier said then done, but don't freak out yet! You still have plenty o' time and the stress will only make your body tense - you need to relax, open yourself up and just try to enjoy these last few days, I am sure you will be fine
Maybe have a glass of wine tonight (small) : and have some quiet time with dh??
You still have more then 2 weeks before inducing is even a question....the baby WILL com e, mama; she just isn't quite ready yet...

hang in there!

Why is she already talking induction: I'm 40 weeks with no talk of inducing. Tell her you don't want to talk about it. Hang in there.

Hi. I just happened upon this post by looking at the new post. I'm not due in June or anything so I hope you don't mind me posting. I wasn't going to post then I saw you were in TN and I was wondering if you are going to Lisa Ross. I went there as well and they ended up inducing me at 40 weeks. I think because they said at 38 weeks they would at 40 I started stressing. Take it easy you have plenty of time and if you do go to 40 and haven't gone into labor you can always just "miss" your induction appointment LOL (((((((((Hugs)))))))))

That's ridiculous.
If they do schedule you for an induction, they can't force you to come, just don't show up at the hospital until you're in labor. They can't turn you away.
I went to 42 weeks 1 day and my midwife wouldn't even talk about induction until 43 weeks.
to you. I hope everything works out for you.

Thanks everyone, I know i till have plenty of time and i also know i just dont have to show up.I told this to Dh and he freaked and said he was afraid the baby could die if i waited:

hippiemommie(love the name) i live in middle tennessee, I see Vandy nurse midwifes, i wish we had the money for me to birth at The Farm, i actually called this morning and left a message. But i really dont think we could afford it, they dont take insurance.

I thought MWs were supposed to be relaxed when it came to due dates. My OB said we should discuss it at 41 weeks and that she would insist on one at 42 weeks. I'm hoping it doesn't come to that, but I'm trying not to think about it. I'm not even ready to discuss it. My u/s edd is earlier than my OB's edd for me, so I'm going by my OB's for sure. I really hope Violet comes soon, Kaitlin. Your body certainly sounds like it's ready. BTW, love the name Violet--that was one of our top choices for a girl, but we're pretty set on Scarlett right now. HANG IN THERE! :

I think it's crazy the midwife would talk about induction to you. I'm almost 40 1/2 weeks and mine haven't said anything, and they're hospital midwives, too. I would say that you should look into a different care provider, but it's pretty late at this point! Definitely let them know you're really not comfortable with induction.

It's just crazy they're stressing you out like this... try to relax. The baby will come soon.

I am very familiar with the Vandi midwives

Just be firm with what you want. They are used to people making "different" decisions. And each midwife there is VERY different. It may mean coming in for more tests (ultrasounds, etc) but it's not like they have never delivered someone at 42 weeks. That said, they may be midwives but they still have to follow hospital protocol and play those games so don't be surprised when it feels pretty medical near the end. Just try to relax and wait on your baby and it will go well. I have been at several inductions with them and they have all gone well. So if you decide to do it, that has been my experience.

Hey Kait,

Had to respond (though not in your group) Stand strong. You do not have to do what they say. In fact, in your shoes I'd probably refuse any more internal checks until you're in labor Good practice to tell them to keep their hands to themselves.

It's plenty early so I hope you can relax!

That said, I know this is somewhat unpopular around here but there is some statistical evidence that bad outcomes increase after 42 weeks. Don't get me wrong! I think induction is a crappy option and wouldn't go *near* that until 42 weeks, but personally, I'm not interested in making it to 43. The human body is amazing but not perfect, and I've had a couple of friends with sad endings at 43+ weeks. It's just too much of a risk for me, myself.

I, too, am shocked she would mention induction. Mw's generally know that first babies don't come until AFTER 41 weeks. I wouldn't be trying anything in the way of induction, including the EPO until 41 and a few days. And stress tests? Even after 42 weeks those are questionable.

P.S. I had labor like you've been having with my first as well, and she was born at 41-weeks 1 day. With this baby I've had even more intense prodromal labor and we're still truckin at 38-weeks 4 days. Don't get too discouraged!
