Less Movement--How About You?

well, my little bugger, though still moving throughout the day, is not moving as much as he used to. So, when I told my ob this (she asked), she said, "we don't like to hear this. It's common that we hear this, but our protocol is to give you a NST and biophysical (u/s)." I had the NST which was perfect, and tommorrow, we go in for an u/s. Just wondering if anyone is experiencing the same.

I was told that is normal before delivery, as long as they ARE moving. MY midwife said if I was concerned, try having some juice and "pushing" at him to get him going. If that didn't work, call them.

I would think they are just being cautious....

Last night he was unusually mellow... he only woke me up a few times with his painful movements. He's usually extrememly active... I was wondering if this is a sign labor is coming since I'd been having contrax for about 30 hours as of last night (still going today). He also didn't get hiccups last night like he usually does???? He's pushing his knee out of my side repeatedly at the moment, so he's still active, just not his usual monkey self.

I was worried about this the other day. My midwife said as long as the baby is responding to stimuli (ie mine kicks if I poke her back, and wiggles if I drink gatorade) then everything is fine. She said they tend to slow down and conserve energy in the days before labor. Also, I went in for a prenatal yesterday and the heart tones are exactly where they have been (she listens for a couple minutes with the doppler this late, to hear accels, etc, it's a kind of less invasive version of the NST) and it looks like the baby has grown noticably since last week! So the midwife said she might have been quiet since she was busy growing so fast. They pack on a lot of fat in the last weeks.

It sounds like your doctor might be overreacting to cover her ass, frankly.

Same here--she's active, just not as floppy. I can tell she's grown because there is a lot less jerky kicking and a lot more small, tight movement.

Her hb was great at my appt on Tuesday and she responded to my rubs, pats and pokes, so we're not worried. She hasn't got any room left in there... hint, hint, time to come out!!!

Mine has quieter days and Tasmanian Devil days, but things are definitely slowing down. I was told that's a sign of being close to delivery, so we'll see. I would worry if she weren't interactive when touched or after I ate something. A cold drink gets her riled up.

Is your OB serious? Everything I've read is that it's completely expected for the baby to get less active. It's getting cramped in there!!!

She was totally serious. The baby's HB has been perfect and even the NST came back perfect, so DH and I feel like, ok cool, we'll get to see the baby via u/s, BUT we're also thinking that she may be overeacting a little and to just let our baby be. I haven't even had an internal at 39 weeks and I'm glad about this to be honest with you. I think we both got concerned when she felt it necassary to take these steps--she's just hasn't been an alarmist at all. If anyone has, it's been my midwife.

I've noticed the same. S/he is VERY active at night, before I go to bed. Moving around like crazy! But throughout the day I really only feel small movements...but as long as I feel movements, I think everything is ok. Sometimes if I haven't felt a movement in a little while I'll poke around my belly and s/he always responds. It makes sense that babies move alot less before they're born considering the lack of space they have, ya know?

Way, way less movement here! Got me nervous last night, but finally after lots of prodding she shifted a little. But overall, MUCH less, even during the day.

Augustine, I wouldn't sweat it. I didn't panic or even worry remotely when she told me she wanted to do some tests. Perhaps it's my female/mother instinct that tells me he's just fine in there.

Oh and I have to add that this probably wouldn't be an issue if I were working with an independent midwife, but when you're part of a practice, they have their own set of protocols. cest le vie.

Apparently, I'm the only one in this DDC who doesn't agree with the majority!

My usually exquisitely active babe (10 kicks in like, 4 minutes with me just sittign around not even paying attention) went quiet on Sunday, and on Monday I had to actually drink juice, lay down, and shake her up a lot to get 10 kicks in 25 minutes.....so, I was honestly concerned, cause it was such a dramatic change in such a short time period...so I went in for a strip...which was fine, but honestly, I'd rather have 25 strips on her in the last 3 weeks than the alternative....I suppose I've been reading too many threads on the P&B loss board : , and I'm slightly paranoid. Fortunately, after her brief respite, she's been beatign the crap out of me regularly since Monday night, so I havne't been worried since.

At this point, I'd really rather err on the side of silly and paranoid, but that's just me.

Don't get me wrong. I'd rather be safe than sorry for the sake of my baby. I guess it's just my instinct that tells me my little guy is just fine in there. I remember dd was "quiet" the last few weeks of pg, too.

We have a biophysical today (level2). I'll update after.

Sorry, yeah, I didn't at all mean my post that way, that anyone is ignoring any feelings or endangering their kid or anything. I'm sorry if I offended anyone. Maybe I should change my first line to,

"Apparently, I'm the only one in this DDC that doesn't have any instincts!" cause sometiems I feel like it's true - I had no feeling about boy or girl either time, I don't have really cool dreams about meetin gmy baby, I don't feel that real neat in utero connection many moms feel, etc. and sometimes that makes me sad.

Ah well, I digress. I have an appt today too, hope we both have good news!

I'm glad you got good news! Mine, on the other hand, was not so hot....I'm gonna post to the chat thread about it...

I'm glad you weren't offended - I don't offend very easily either, which could be why sometimes I forget other people do get offended, and then I
