Our Turtle has arrived!
William Drake was born May 31 at 10:34 am. He weighed 7lbs 14 oz and was 20.5 inches long. He has fair skin and blonde hair and blue eyes....the total opposite my girls!
He is a week old today and is now being labeled the incredible shrinking turtle. He measured monday at 19.5 inches ( they say the hospital always measures wrong) and today his weight was down to 7.4. Nursing is going well when he is awake which all he wants to do is sleep sleep sleep. he is soo calm and peaceful and such a delight!
His birth was an induction because of high blood pressure and his lack of response to testing. I was admitted 2 hours after my drs appointment Tuesday night....a total rush I had to leave everything hanging and was sooo not prepared for his arrival and boy was he in a hurry. I was given a low dose of pitocin at 4am that kick started things with no pain....at 7 my dose was upped and put me into instant super painful down low labor a total oppposite labor from Lilbit. I tried for the epidural about 8am...it only took to my left side three epidurals later. He had me lay on my right side to try and get it to kick in there....well there was no time. by 9am I was 8 cms and by 10 I was complete and ready to push...no pain relief what so ever since my dr walked in and lowered my epidural and upped my pitocin. Needless to say he was born in 11 pushes, would have been less but I stopped to breathe and let my body do the work for me. best advice I was ever given! I had no tearing or cuts etc! My recovery has been a breeze compared to Lil'bit. I would hate to have a labor like his again, it was horrible, but the recovery has been fantastic. I literally felt great right after he was born.
My hospital experience for the most part was fantastic. The nursing staff was soo sweet as was the room service. It felt like a mini vacation, atleast up until discharge which was a total screw up. We didnt have a ped to put down and waited till the last minute soo the ped who didnt see him till after discharge time ordered a bili test which of course came back "too high" and they refused to discharge him. (his bili was 14) sooo I was sent home without him and he was put under the lights. (I cried!) I returned twice that evening to nurse him and then let them bottle feed him after his midnint nursing just as i had done while in the hospital. I returned the next day armed with correct info that 14 is normal for a breastfed baby and insisted they release him. The ped who was the same one refused...he was the biggest SOB ever....I called up the ped who we signed up for and could have kissedher. She immediately called the nursing station and insisted on his release, with an outpatient bili an hour later. Sooo we finally were released by 1030 am. I took him home, nursed him well and put him in the sun....his bili came down well over a point....more then the whole nights worth of bili-lights! We returned twice to see the ped and he is loosing weight, but his jundice is gone and he is sweet as pie!
Im trying not to stress about his weight loss even thos his ped is trying to force me into forcine food into him...im just trying to relax and let him lead the way. Im soo not used to such a tiny babe after my moose of a baby (9.3) who was back up to birth weight and higher with in a week. Soo please send some fattening vibes for me! I will post some pics soon too. Welcome all these new babes....sorry I havent been around but things are nutz around here and im still trying to catrch up from his early arrival! Thanks for reading!
