I certainly hope that my "good" story (about getting a BFP on 22 dpo) is worth feeling reassured about.

I guess it depends upon when the embryo implants (duh!) but also where in the uterus it implants. Plus some women (or the embryo? not sure!) don't generate as much of the hormone being measured. Who knew?
I must add that I really felt different when I actually was pregnant. Not like the little "feeling different" kinds of things I thought I felt the first few months we tried (plus all those months of marriage when we were still using protection but I secretly hoped!), but definite "early signs of pregnancy" feelings. Sore boobs! That's the one I really noticed.
In 2003, right before I POAS and got the BFP, I was sure I was about to get AF because it felt just like my usual PMS. Every time I went to the bathroom I was sure all was lost, especially after 2 BFNs at the "normal" dates that "normal" women got results.
Right now, I'm feeling positively queasy. I think I've had enough nausea already in this 2WW to equal my whole pg in 2003. I'm either pg, or I've got a serious virus.
But today, add purple nipples (not totally Crayola, but noticeable change) to my previous list of mild cramps, nausea, fatigue, needing to pee, and hunger.
I think I am.
I just really don't want to waste an expensive test! Sheesh, am I cheap.
