nicknames for the wee ones?

Okay.. maybe they're not all so little now (Luka crawling out of his highchair and eating chili?!?! wow!), but I'll call them little for now anyway!

So... does your December babe have a nickname or a couple of nicknames?

I suppose I'll go first...

I think it's quite comical, actually, that Lucy has a nickname at all. When naming our children, we did so because we liked *that* name. I name dd1 Madeline because I liked the name Maddie (um, we don't ever call her that, but it's an example).... We call the older two by their given names: Madeline and Katherine.

Then along comes Lucy. The shortest name of the bunch. And *of course* that's the one that gets the nicknames!!

'Louie' began when Katherine couldn't say the 's' sound in Lucy. So, she became Louie. And, then that got shortened sometimes to LuLu. Then Katherine began saying her 's' sounds, but it sounded like 'sh' ... soo...she was Looshy.... ... and now of course Katherine can say her name properly.... but I think Louie totally stuck!!! (and I find myself calling her LuLu as well!)

My 26 mo old calls my son Bishop - Shishop. She can say her B's, but for some reason, it's Shishop. So, her dad calls him Shishop all the time. I call him l"ittle boy" & the generic, "buddy."

Oh, & our friends little boy, when asked, would say their unborn childs name was Butter. So he calls his little sister Butter or Butter Kate (her name is Katherine). I think that's pretty cute!

: rachel - my son's nickname has been Butter for years. to the point where he would only respond to that and had no idea who rowan was. : he was also Nubby or The Nub.

ava is:
chunka chunks (i know, this is horrible. i'm trying to stop it. it just happens.)
fizgig
fizzygiggy
the widget
princess (dave calls her this all the time)
little one
miss thang

but most of the time, we call her Baby Ava...that's what rowan called her in utero and he still calls her that 99.99999% of the time.

Awww these are so cute!

The kids call Joie -
Joie Joie Coco Pop. (and occasionally add) Joie Joie Raaaaah.
They say things like, "Mama, are we going to take Joie Joie Coco Pop Joie Joie Raaah to the store, too?"

When the yard apes get wild, we sing to Joie - "Hey, hey, it's JoJo's circus!"

But other than that she's just Josephine or Joie.

Oh, Michele! I JUST broke myself of the habit of calling Joie - Chubber Blubber. A month ago I would have said that was her nickname!

it's funny how sometimes we have all these nicknames for them as babies and they seem to outgrow a lot of them. Jude had some crazy ones. One that didn't stick (thank goodness) was Mr. Pants and his mexican side kick Senior Pantelones. Jude was both of them. At day he was Mr. Pants and at night he'd go south of the border for the cheap tequilla and he was Senior Pantelones then. What did stick was Judah the Buddha. We still call him Buddha sometimes.

: Senor Pantalones!! HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
Jason tried calling Cicely "Senorita Pantelones" but it sounded a bit to incestuous, so he stopped.

Evan was Butters for a while, after the funny clueless kid on South Park. Remember the one where Butters tried so hard to take a good school picture, but he ended up looking goofy and his parents were mad at him thinking he did it on purpose?

Ethan, for better or worse, has inherited nicknames from the other boys. I am trying hard not to allow anyone to shorten Ethan..its so short already...but here are a few:

Ethy (thats Mikey's nickname)

wormhead (i dont know where this came from, but i used it with all my boys..i know it sounds really weird, but its said in an affectionate manner and i just dont know where i got it...still call Mikey wormhead too..he just giggles!)

butterball (considering all my boys were over 8 lbs, this is fitting...sometimes i forget and call E this in public and i get the weirdest remarks). i guess i shoudl wean myself from this one too...kind of like chunky or some other names)

sweetiepie (i know, thats very unique)

mainly i just call him Ethan...but i still hold on to that Benjamin (remember, its his first middle name), so im holding off on commiting myself to Ethan right now..yes, that will always be his name (thought of not submitting that with the BC but i will) but i still have time to opt out of that...so, if its Benjamin...well, i dont know....

Amalie gets called "goofball" a lot. Not original, but it fits! Sometimes we also call her Hurricane Amalie. It's loving, I swear. DP and I share a pretty warped sense of humor.

Moira is Moe My mom said it one day half-jokingly and it stuck.
