How many times should you wash hemp before making inserts??

So I'm going to attemt to make inserts/doublers for diapers. I have hemp jersey & a velourish type hemp. I always wash fabric before sewing but I'm wondering if with hemp you should wash it a few times ??? The reason I ask is I think I've seen when I've bought hemp inserts that they recommend you wash them before using.

Anyone?? Help:

It seems to me that most of the shrinkage occurs with the first washing, so I only wash once before sewing. Then I wash the finished diaper or insert at least 2 - 3 times more before use to make sure it will absorb properly. I haven't had a problem with this. Make sure you check your lint trap a couple of times during the drying. New hemp sheds like CRAZY...

I put mine through a hot pre-wash followed by a hot real wash. I'm really more interested in making sure it is shrunk before I sew it (and like you I had a few ready-made hemp inserts that said to wash 5ish times). I'm too impatient to wait through that many washes!
I wash them again once I'm done with the sewing, but then I just have to try them out
