My friend attended the birth as a doula-in-training for DONA, and this was her first birth. She got my OB to fill out an evaluation form from DONA and in the comments section, my OB wrote "Mrs. L.'s birth was the best one I have ever attended."
: That made my day...especially after the experience I had in my last birth with an OB who was a yes-man through our entire pregnancy, then "forgot" all about my birth plan when I was actually in labor.
Another thing, too...when I was laboring this time and I had a moment to talk to my OB, I thanked her for being such a good doctor. She was following my birth plan to the letter, letting me do my thing, and was sure to be really gentle and relaxed throughout the entire process. She looked a little taken aback and said "thank YOU for being such a good patient...I'm learning so much from you!" That was such a big compliment because she is expecting her first baby, and after my birth she said she's looking forward to her birth after seeing mine. Then she said she was going to have my DH call her DH and tell him how to coach.
