My doctor said the coolest thing

My friend attended the birth as a doula-in-training for DONA, and this was her first birth. She got my OB to fill out an evaluation form from DONA and in the comments section, my OB wrote "Mrs. L.'s birth was the best one I have ever attended." : That made my day...especially after the experience I had in my last birth with an OB who was a yes-man through our entire pregnancy, then "forgot" all about my birth plan when I was actually in labor.

Another thing, too...when I was laboring this time and I had a moment to talk to my OB, I thanked her for being such a good doctor. She was following my birth plan to the letter, letting me do my thing, and was sure to be really gentle and relaxed throughout the entire process. She looked a little taken aback and said "thank YOU for being such a good patient...I'm learning so much from you!" That was such a big compliment because she is expecting her first baby, and after my birth she said she's looking forward to her birth after seeing mine. Then she said she was going to have my DH call her DH and tell him how to coach.

I was pretty thrilled when my midwife said I should "do this all the time"- meaning have babies.

Very cool! If only more DRs were like that!

I also got comments from my midwives like "are you sure you haven't done this before??" and "your pregnancy and birth has been like a textbook - an ideal midwife-guided birth textbook!"

It's so nice to work with positive people who really genuinely care and are emotionally present!

Very cool Amanda. I was soo happy with my midwife as well. She probably saved me from a c-section, and definately saved me from an episiotimy. I sent her a basket of chocolate goodness (who needs flowers ) in appreciation. She's thanked me every time I go to the office now, hehe.

BTW, looks like you need to adjust your signature!

Your story brings tears to my eyes!! I tend to find it hard to support hospital & OB births. Hearing this story helps remind me that there are good experiences out there. (Perhaps FAR and FEW between! ) Congratulations on a great experience!
