When the time comes

Are you going to find out the sex? I didn't with my last 2 and honestly, it was mostly because I was dead positive they would be girls. They were I still have a while to go before any u/s will be done but I think this time I want to find out...or at least try

When we have our third, I want to be surprised. I found out with both of my children and we have one boy and one girl. I would love DH to be the one to announce the gender, after he catches the baby
I will probably sort of have a feeling one way or the other, but I don't want to know for sure

We will not find out. We found out with DS...but we wont be having any ultrasounds and I do not want to know!
DP will catch the babe...but he is not allowed to announce the sex! I am gonna look for myself! I am being firm about it this time!!!

No way could I wait! I'm so bad about that! I didn't know with my first but did with all the rest. I've always guess right, anyway, and I say this is a boy.

We're on the fence. We didn't find out with our first, and we were so happy with the surprise, but I think we might not be able to wait this time around.

It's against the law here to find out. Although, I hear it is common practice to bribe the techs. We'll see. We have a boy and a girl that we knew about ahead of time. I'd like to wait anyway this time, but my husband is adamant about knowing. He'll probably slip the tech some cash.

Probably....this is our first and only child so in one sense, it's our only time to be surprised...but...on the other hand, I'm not good with surprises and already want to know!

Not sure yet. We tried and couldn't find out with #1 and #2. We did find out with #3. I liked knowing with Ellie because we named her and talked to the children about their baby sister. They were very bonded to her before she was born. On the other hand, I would *love* to be surprised, but I am not sure if I can wait!

We won't be finding out with this pregnancy. We didn't with our 1st & loved not knowing. It drove my family & friends wild, but really, it is really only one of the true surprises of life.

The techs here are not allowed to tell either, but both times my OB has asked me if I wanted to know so there are ways around it. It was annoying because even though I didn't *want* to know, all the signs in the u/s office warning me not to ask blah blah blah made me want to find out just for spite.

Yes 1) It helps be pre bond and mentally prepare 2) I'm totally inpatient and would rip out all my hair and that of anyone passing thoug my life It I couldn't know.

We found out with the first 2, were surprised with the middle 2, and then knew with the last 2. I like knowing ahead of time. I like having gender specific newborn stuff, and I LOVE shopping for it mid to late pregnancy. Just before the birth I like having everything all clean and ready to go, organized in the baby's dresser. The 2 times we didn't know I had to buy lots of white nb stuff, and then had to keep tags on the few gender specific things I got. Dh took the things we didn't need back, but then I didn't get to pick out the stuff to replace it. Did I mention I really like shopping for baby stuff? Another reason I like knowing ahead of time is that I enjoy the surprise more when I'm pregnant than I do at the actual birth. Finding out at birth is sort of anti-climatic for me. I'm just so relieved and thrilled to have made it through another labor and that baby is healthy, that I don't really care what the sex is at the time. When I find out during pregnancy I get to really bask in it, since I'm not side-tracked with just having given birth.

I'm so glad you posted this. I have been thinking this very this thing, but I wasn't sure. We knew ahead of time with our two others, but since it is illegal here, I thought maybe we'd wait. OTOH, I thought it would an aside rather than a real surprise at the birth.

Something to think about.

nope! We didn't find out with DD and it was great for everyone to guess all along the pregnancy. Also, I know lots of people who tried to find out and the u/s was wrong.

My cousin who has twins didn't find out and said that it's one of the last great/good surprises in life- as opposed to lots of other surprises that are not so great (like a death in the family or something). I was completely convinced that DD was a girl and would have been soooo surprised if she had been a boy. We didn't even have a boy name picked out.

I'm not sure with this one.... DD keeps tellign me she wants one of each...

We don't do routine ultrasounds, so its unlikely that the opertunity to find out will come up. But even if we could find out I wouldn't want to. We found out with ds (he was a total surprise and it helped us come to terms with it I think) but dd was a surprise (well we kinda knew...!). I loved how exciting it was to look for the first time and see what we had. Dp asked me if it was a girl about 5 seconds after she was born!

We didn't know with dd but she was born at 26 weeks so we found out so soon.

With ds, the ultrasoundographer saw his penis at 16 weeks and got a look on her face like, uh, do you want to know the sex? It was interesting to know.

This time, (I'm certain it's a girl) and am not going to find out unless another ultrasound perso tells it accidentally.

That's the same with our DS. We were very young and had no clue what to do, were pretty involved with the adoption process...it helped my DP more than myself I think, but it really helped in knowing that this IS a person, he is a boy not an it...ya know. So this time, it will be exciting to just be surprised!

I don't want to find out, but I know already this will drive my MIL crazy (all the more reason, right? I don't want a pile of gender specific clothes, but more importantly we just want to be surprised.

curious - why is it against the law in some states to find out the sex? :

I think Heather is in Korea, so I can't speak for her. I'm in BC and with my last 2 pregnancies was surprised to find out that finding out the sex was not an option. They apparently are trying to avoid any cases of aborting due to gender selection.
