We found out with the first 2, were surprised with the middle 2, and then knew with the last 2. I like knowing ahead of time. I like having gender specific newborn stuff, and I LOVE shopping for it mid to late pregnancy. Just before the birth I like having everything all clean and ready to go, organized in the baby's dresser. The 2 times we didn't know I had to buy lots of white nb stuff, and then had to keep tags on the few gender specific things I got. Dh took the things we didn't need back, but then I didn't get to pick out the stuff to replace it. Did I mention I really like shopping for baby stuff? Another reason I like knowing ahead of time is that I enjoy the surprise more when I'm pregnant than I do at the actual birth. Finding out at birth is sort of anti-climatic for me. I'm just so relieved and thrilled to have made it through another labor and that baby is healthy, that I don't really care what the sex is at the time. When I find out during pregnancy I get to really bask in it, since I'm not side-tracked with just having given birth.
