I just posted to the "fess up/waxing" thread. I was told by 2 estheticians that if I kept shaving my unders (I never really heal in 2 spots), I could very well be susceptible to skin cancer. I epilate, and rarily get bumps after 2 months of regular use. Waxing, if you can afford it or tolerate the mess at home (and self-inflicted pain at home), is a great alternative. Razors harbor bacteria, and are just a bugger. Exfoliating before and after shaving are essential. Simple shea butter is a dream. African black soap (authentic) is GREAT for bumps as well.

As an esthetician myself, I have never heard of such a thing as "getting cancer from shaving" (or even becoming more at risk)!
I will say a razor can harbor different things that can cause problems, for your skin and health. Just clean it after you are done. You can use vodka to soak in (mixed with alittle water), rubbing alcohol (quick rinse) or barberzide (found at beauty supply shops) and mix acorrding to the bottle.

AS for the sugaring, I will let you know "Bamamom" it is not ment for all hair types. Its works better on women who have a corser hair texture, or for some reason asian descent. If you are worried about pain, let the person you are going to know and she should put some numbing cream or lotion on the location first (almost like a dentist will for tooth work).
Good luck it really is not that bad.

I have struggled with shaving my legs for so long now...I get razor burn often, and my legs never seem to get smooth. I just recently switched to real shaving cream, and that seems to help a little. I am going to try the stuff on here. Or maybe wax at home, after numbing. I do have a lot of problems with my bikini area--I ALWAYS get lots of bumps, and then it itches really bad, I guess cuz the shorter hairs are prickly and irritating.

I just put some coconut oil "down there" after shaving it all off tonight and it really soothed it. I don't know if it will keep the bumps away though because I don't usually get them too bad. I have to wait at least a week between shaves or I get them bad though.

I am thinking of getting permanent laser treatments on my underarms and "down there" so I never have to shave again! I need to research it to see if there are any nasty side effects though.
