It's just one of those post-partum things you have to deal with. After having pushed a baby out, it can hurt to poo. But if you take a stool softener or other remedies it should be just fine - don't worry!

: Caroline, I'm totally borrowing this!

I'm still hanging out at 3 cm and for the past few days have been losing little chunks of my mucus plug (such a pretty sight ) Still the same nightly flirtations with BH contrax, but nothing ever gets serious.

I actually was a bit of a cheater yesterday and had her strip my membranes at my appointment. That, a hour walking around Costco and another hour walking around our neighborhood at home and all it made me was crampy and tired : so, today is a sleeping in, acting like tomorrow could be the day I give birth (even though it probably won't be) and resting up ... I've got a great excuse, right?

and, okay, I'll also admit to buying a fresh pineapple while at Costco yesterday

I've been getting a lot of the line about how getting up all night to pee is great practice for when the baby comes ... yeah, I suppose so, but you know what? I'd MUCH rather be up with a newborn baby than just me and my bladder and the toilet, ykwim?

Best wishes to those mamas who have already had their little ones! I SO LOVE coming and reading all these great birth stories It is really helping to set my mood for my own upcoming birth ...plus, it is just really nice seeing all these dreams come true for all you mamas I've known for so long now ... a really great feeling!

Oh, and MCIMOM, good reminder about stocking up on some prune juice to have to drink for after. The "fear of pooping" is something I remember well from the first time around ... would be nice to just, erhm, let things take their course, as it were

I'm afraid to poo while pushing the baby out! I would just hate for my mw's to have to witness that!

Yesterday Lauren (my doula/student mw) came over to do a NST. Everything was great. Baby's HB is perfecto. We had alot of confusion w/ this pg about how I was measuring (I was measuring much larger than I should've for awhile and my mw's sometimes thought they felt 2 heads) and thought I could be having twins, due a month earlier, . Well, after my ultrasound a couple days ago it turns out that my placenta is anterior. (Which isn't a problem at all, just not that common) And so that was the big mystery all along. The other 'bulge' they were feeling was just the placenta! Hehe. I didn't have her check me but she palpaited my belly and the head is MUCH lower than it was on Saturday so she said she was sure I've dialated more. I have an app. tomorrow unless I go into labor before then. Which I REALLY hope I do because I DON'T wanna make that 1 1/2 hr. drive to Long Beach again!

I've been doing lots of walking which is the biggest thing that's helped the head go down. We have lots of really big hills in my neighborhood so we walk up and down them. Last night we walked and I had some good cntx and TONS of pressure, which I still have. Hopefully the cntx will pick up. I'm gonna start walking around and doing stuff here in a minute, see if that helps. I really have a feeling that something will happen this weekend. Hey, Sunday would be cool since it's Fathers Day!

Well, here's some for you Mamas!

I did too.....haven't cut it yet though!

Ok, major vent coming...

My 22 month old is not sleeping well. I was up with him during the night and then up at 7 am with him this morning. Husband slept in until about 10: . My 4 year old had a birthday party at a nice park to go to this morning. So I told DH he had the youngest while I took her there, I was in no mood to chase him around a park today. I get home after playing at the park (pushing on swings etc.), and my son is eating lunch. I think great, I can put him down for his nap and lay down myself. Umm...no. DH informed me he put him down for a nap at 11 and he just woke up. WTF??>? I left the house at 10:45!!!!!!!! So he played with him for 15 minutes and that was it?? SO now he will be exhausted come 5 pm and I will have a cranky toddler on my hands. To make matters worse, I asked DH what HE did while child was napping. His answer..."Not much". Well, yeah, I looked around the house....his breakfast dishes were still in the sink, the pan he used was on the stove, the house is a general mess.

So...as I clean the kitchen (throwing things around) he comes in and says he is going for a run. Since I am not talking to him, I ignored him and tied up the garbage that was overflowing to take it out.

I am so angry right now....

Ok, with all this talk of poo, I'll share a funny detail from my birth...

Dh kept making jokes during my pregnancy about hoping he wouldn't have to fish a poo out of the pool while I was giving birth. Well, guess what? He didn't get his wish - haha! In his words, he "reeled in a brown trout."

Caroline - urgh! that story made ME mad at your dh - LOL. :

Stacy - we had to fish something out of our pool too : my MW was so cute (she's a mom to 2 little boys) when I expressed concern about it, she was like "no biggee - all gone!" if I hadn't been in such a state, I would have laughed...nice to have someone used to cleaning up other people's poo around...

Still no baby here, but I'm a-ok with that. The ear infection is finally healing, and I've been able to get many deep naps today. Thank goodness--I was scared to death about laboring under exhaustion.

Caroline--I sure hope you get some much deserved rest soon! Nothing is worse than feeling like a tired preggo mama

Kara--The mucous plug is a good sign! Is it bloody? With my first, I lost my plug at 11am and water broke at 5pm, active labor started immediately. I'm hoping things will move a little more slowly and gently this time

The bloody show has finally slowed to a stop, but the ctxns are still intense. I'm STARVING. Ate a huge taco dinner, and I think I'm going to raid the fridge now...

I can't believe tomorrow is the 17th....and I'm still pg.

forgive me....I have to rant about DH too.....

Caroline, I feel for you! Men are so clueless sometimes, even the best of them!

If it helps at all to commiserate, I am mad at DH as well. Tonight I was planning to go to Costco to stock up on stuff before the baby comes. I know DH hates shopping so the girls and I just usually do it, but I figured maybe he could help since at this point pushing a cart full of huge, bulk packages of stuff, along with 2 kids sitting in the cart totaling nearly 80 pounds alone, doesn't sound too fun. So he said he'd come, but of course was late getting home from work. Then I had an LLL call that was kind of urgent, so he took the girls out to play and then when I got off the phone I had to go find them.....anyway by the time we left the house and got to Costco, the kids were hungry so we got pizza for dinner at their little food court thing. Which took forever....and then of course they asked for ice cream, and DH agreed....bottom line, by the time we ate dinner and dessert and got everyone cleaned up and to the potty, etc., it was 8:30. I noticed lots of people leaving, so I asked an employee what time they close - of course, 8:30. : I always go during the day so it never even occured to me!

So I admit, I'm hormonal - I proceed to go back to DH and the kids in tears, hysterically crying that now I am going to go into labor tonight and we will have no food and no drinks and no toilet paper in the house. OK, I must have looked like a but DH was totally unsympathetic and went off on me for "making a scene" looking like "a weirdo crying in Costco" and said "it's not big deal, why are you freaking out over it." I was like, um....that would be because I could go into labor any time and I have a lot on my mind and I'm worried about things while I'm gone and would like to know the house is stocked and everything will be OK without me!!

So THEN on the way home from the wasted trip, DH makes a comment about his trip to D.C. on Wednesday and Thursday. I'm like WTF??? You said you were going to skip the pre-conference in D.C.!! And he goes, "Well, I'm still hoping to be able to go, depending on when you have the baby...." I was shocked, and he goes, "Of course I won't stay overnight, I'll just go down for the meetings and dinner and come back so I can at least help you at night..." Oh, do you want a freakin' medal for that? I just lost it and was like, you are leaving for Europe for 10 days on Friday, leaving me with 3 kids under 4, a few days postpartum - instead of spending any portion of the two days before in meetings, you should be spending them KISSING MY BUTT!!! (OK, not the most productive way to phrase it, but you know....)

THEN on top of all that, while I'm nursing a very overtired DD to sleep, he checks our bank account online and sees that I screwed up - I had taken a free trial period of this new service on amazon.com and forgotten to cancel it when the free period ended, so we were charged $79 for something we didn't want. So he comes in yelling at me for being so careless and says what was I thinking, to forget about canceling that and to waste money. I was like, um, what do you THINK I was thinking about??? (Of course I called and got the charge refunded, but that was AFTER he was a total ass about it!)

So now I hope I DON'T go into labor tonight because I am so mad I don't want HIM for a labor coach right now!!!

mucous plug question

So how do you know if you're passing the mucous plug or just regular mucous? I have had so much discharge lately (sorry TMI!) that I've been wearing a pad....but it's not thick or anything like what I'd envision a "plug" to look like. No blood in it either. So I'm assuming it's just increased fluid....but I wonder since I never saw the plug with either previous pg.

In my case, with my first the plug looked like a big glob of snot, blood tinged. It was thick, like blowing my nose kind of yuck.

Never lost my plug or had bloody show with the second, just a lot of end-of-pregnancy discharge (white or yellowish creamy consistency, sometimes watery).

This morning, after my internal exam, I had lots and lots of bloody show, my regular discharge but with lots of bright red blood. No thick plug, though.

I'm pretty sure they fished something out of my pool too! By the end of it all, though, there was so much vernix and blood, and it was nice and dark in the room, that you really couldn't tell what was in there.

For pooping after birth - just up your vitamin C and magnesium intake ... they will both soften you up and most of us can use the extra nutrients.

Elliot (and Aaron - ds#2) are both happy that my milk is in already. I'm hoping that it'll help Aaron get back to sleeping better again (both boys stayed up for the birth and their sleeping has been messed up the last two days now).

As for me ... I have to say healing after a home/water birth is soooo much better than a hospital birth. I've noticed a HUGE difference just in the ppd bleeding - at the hospital with both ds#1 and ds#2, they automatically gave me a shot of pitocin in the IV right after delivery. I think it made the bleeding and cramping that much worse. My mw had pitocin with her incase it was necessary, but it wasn't, and my bleeding has been so much better (the cramping is still there ... but I did give in and have dh go get me Advil!). Oh, and using cloth ppd is a God-send too! I can't believe I did plastic pads for both of my other births, along with the rash and itchiness they bring.

Yeah, it isn't a pretty sight I've been losing mine in bits and pieces for a few days - kinda like rubber cement glue consistency and sort of brownish, redish, pinkish clumps. t is definitly a lot, um, "firmer" than the eggwhite discharge I am having. I know, "yummy" eh?

I also seem to have a lot of eggwhite discharge, too. Today is my due date, so I'm hopeful ... But, then again I also read that losing the mucus plug, loose stools, extra discharge, increased Braxton Hicks can all mean you'll go into labor soon or you'll hang on for another week ... so, who knows?

(this is reminding me a lot of trying to conceive when every sign could either be a sign of pregnancy or a sign of my period, you know? I have no clue until the event actually happens )

I'm seeing a common theme of Costco and poop on this thread

Cymbeline, glad the ear infection is getting better

Here's to some Father's Day weekend babies, eh girls? And to all the mamas and newborns ... I just love coming here and seeing new posts with new little people in this world!

Cut up that pineapple last night...it was delicious, but I am still here!! Woke up at 6 am to a nice cntrx...continued till about 8 am...now nothing. They were actually about 3 minutes apart for 45 minutes, I thought it might be it.

My mom is coming tonight, I am wondering if mentally I am waiting until she gets here so she can be at the birth....At this point it would suck if she missed it by a couple of hours.

Thanks to all that commiserated on dumb-ass husbands. Mine suggested it would be a good day for me to vacuum out my car (because he just washed it for me)..... I could see that....
