It's too bad that there isn't...

some way to hook up with tcs parents in a more personal way if you are striving to be more tcs yourself. I love this board, but there are times when it would help to be able to call up someone and say "ya, know, I'm having a really hard time not being driven up the wall when my ds is putting his hands in his mouth" or something like that and get some one on one.

It would also be nice to have some in person or over the phone friends that are not hitters and yellers

Is there anything like this?

mdc get away

how about organising a mdc get away where we could all go on a holiday together and just meet up and have a great time?

The idea of a great party sounds great, except when I remember that most of you live in the States, while me, I live in Europe amidst cio-ers and spankers.

I soo wish all of you, the fantastic mothers who post on this board and who have given me such great advice would all live next door. But then no, it seems it is my mission to try my best and change even though a little tiny bit the society where I was born.

That is the greatest of all challenges about Gentle Discipline for me, is to GD in a world that does not understand nor respect kids.

Forgive my ignorance. I though it was illegal in Europe to spank. Is it legal

I have seen that TCS is 'taking children seriously'. What is this and how does it relate to GD? Thanks

Dear Olivermum and Mama8, I live in Switzerland. It is legal to spank here and if you read French here is a recent tribunal decision:

"D'après le Tribunal fédéral en effet, les parents ont certes le droit de donner de temps à autre une gifle à leur enfant à condition que ce droit de correction soit toujours la conséquence d'un comportement inadapté et intervienne dans un but éducatif." Il est bien évident que la plupart des parents qui frappent leurs enfants croient agir dans un but éducatif. Et quand on veut vraiment interdire un comportement, les excès de vitesse par exemple, on ne se contente pas de les interdire s'ils sont répétés ou dénotent une certaine habitude?

I got this information from http://www.observatoire-internationa...carte-geo.html which contains information on spanking in all countries. In some other European countries spanking is not legal, like in Austria and Germany and Italy.
