No it doesn't hurt at all! It is amazing for healing I had a stupid tear that kept reopening (OUCH!) because I was doing too much and it was the only thing that made it feel better. I think I added about a cup of seasalt to the bathtub and then just soaked for a good 20 min at least. I did that twice a day as recommended by my midwives.

I also want to second Angela's recommendation for lots of food. I had a really short labor so nothing got eaten during my labor (actually my MW didn't get there until a half hour after he was born ) but it was so nice to have it afterwards. Easy to eat snacks and meals dropped off by friends and family are wonderful. I really like that Recharge electrolyte drink and think I went through 3-4 bottles of it in the first few pp days. I normally drink just water, but for some reason it just felt good to drink that stuff.

I just thought of one other thing that is not necessary, but it can make things more convenient. You might want to get a little fish net scooper if you are having a water birth. Sometimes you pass a bit of feces, and if you do not have the net you have to scoop it out with your hand.

Yeah, "Electrolyte replacement drinks" are on my list, but I don't want Gatorade or something similar-EWWw. I'll look into the Recharge stuff. Anyone know if there is a really healthy brand?

I always forget something and have to post again-sorry ladies. I have pregnant-mother of a toddler-brain
Thanks for the pad idea Jen, I wouldn't have thought of it. I'll try to remember them when I go to the toilet . The food idea is a great one, with my daughter when anyone asked if they could do anything I said "bring food". I started telling family and close friends they couldn't come over unless they were bearing food
