My ds (11 months), got what I think looks like hives on Thursday morning--he woke up with them. I took him to CareNow and they said it looked like an allergic reaction (we're talking large red areas on his stomach), so they gave him a steroid and Benadryl. Well, I didn't want to give him both of them together because I knew that steroids sometimes keep you from sleeping well and the same with Benadry, so I only gave him the steroid, but now I"m giving him the Benadryl, but his rash will get better, then worse. Yesterday, he ate the same cereal he's been eating for weeks (with goat's milk). I had multi-grain Cheerios and I gave him a few bites. About an hour later, he had a few more spots on his stomach, but after I nursed him about two hours later, his face immediately broke out! I also had half a cinnamon roll. My question is, how am I going to find out if this is really a food allergy or not? He has already eaten most of the things on the highly allergic list--dairy (I put some cow's milk on his cereal when he first started eating it and I have milk in my oatmeal that I usually eat every day and he helps me eat it), soy- there's soy something or other in practically everything!, wheat is in everything he's been eatin gup to now, he hasn't had any nuts and he's already eaten scrambled eggs or helped me with quiche. Can I continue to eat and feed him things that he's already had for the past few weeks/months? Do I need to totally cut out everything? Also, there was a website that said hives can be due to a virus, but how do I figure that out too? I feel so bad for him! He looked better before he went to bed last night, but it had been about 3:00 when I gave him Benadryl, so I couldn't give him any before he went to bed and when he got up this morning, it was all red and on his face and everywhere all over again! I don't know what to do!
