I just called my midwives and I don't get an appointment until 10-12wks???? Is this just cause it's my 2nd and I should know what to do this time? 'Cause I don't, I didn't know last time until I was 17wks! I have no idea how to take care of a first trimester baby. I'm scared to death. Also, a few days ago I lifted a big ceramic fire pit thing that weighed like 100lbs up a flight of stairs! I don't want to be naurotic, but is everything ok? Shouldn't I be given some other sort of test to make sure that I actually am pregnant (I know I am though)?

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

This is pretty normal. There isn't really anything the mw could do right now. She wouldn't be able to find a heartbeat yet or to measure your growth. An OB would only have you in to do a pap and blodwork that really isn't neccesary. As far as another pregnancy test, most mws just use the urine strips so her test wouldn't be any better than the one you have taken yourself.
As far as lifting. I wouldn't do it again, but as long as you feel OK I wouldn't worry about it. Sit back and enjoy your pregnacy. Pay close attention to your diet and drink plenty of water. Grow that baby!

Yep, that's normal. My midwives have never wanted me to come in until around 11-12 weeks, when they can first hear the heartbeat with a hand held doppler. The things you can be doing now are eating healthy, getting exercise, drinking lots of water and cutting out caffeine, sugar, and junk foods. Also, you can go ahead and ask about which prenatals they want you to take, or you can pick some up on your own from a healthfood store. Some people even have good luck with the generic ones from Target or Wal-mart.

not in your ddc, but yes, that's pretty normal.
as for taking care of yourself, take prenatals, eat well, drink lots, if you feel like you are doing too much with your body, you probably are and continue your exercise plan (walking, chasing after your kids, yoga, training for a marathon, whatever...)
oh, and relax and breathe.

Just popping to to say me too. I have a phone consulatation with a nurse at 8weeks and my first mw appt at 10 weeks.
I'm looking forward to hearing the HB! I just hope they can find it at 10 weeks.

Normal here too. I wasn't seen until 10 weeks by an OB during my first pregnancy, and that was for the dating ultrasound, PAP, and bloodwork.
I honestly don't want to be seen until after 12 weeks anyway (I have a tilted uterus, so it takes about 16 weeks to hear a heartbeat with the doppler), but out here they make you schedule at least the nurse's consultation (where they tell you to take vitamins, set up your first real appointment, etc.) as soon as you get a positive pregnancy test.

Not from you ddc, but it is OK not to be seen that late, especially if you are not planning to do 1st trimester screening tests. However I whould ask for a prescription for prenatal vitamins and start them asap if you are not using them yet.
