I didn't really know what a PFO was. I found out today. He has a hole in his heart, between the top two chambers. When the first echo was done at 2 days old, it was smaller, but he says that was because the pressure in his heart from his lungs made it look smaller. It's a "moderate" size, whatever that's supposed to mean. Apparently the flap of tissue is there, it just never closed. He said it's nothing to worry about and that's it's pretty common, and they usually close up by 1-3 years old, so we have to go back in 6 months, and pry continue it to make sure it does close. If it doesn't, he said they can do it through a cathetar or surgery, but most opt for the catheter nowadays. Soooo... as long as it continues to not cause any problems we just pretend it's not there and keep checking on it!
