I KNEW I shouldn't have let them check me

We never thought I'd make it past 37-weeks... I'm 39 and 3 days today. I haven't been to the mw in 4 weeks because we just figured the baby would come before I could make it in, well, we finally went ahead and made the appt.

I've been in labor for over 4 weeks. I'm exhausted. Last night I was SO SURE it was time. Contractions were 3 mins apart (as usual), but were far more painful than they have been. I was really having to work through them. Well, I'm still pg today... again.

Went to the mw. Appearently it was time for my gonorhhea/chlymidia (sp?) screening. She (the backup mw, not my usual one) decided to check my cervix while she was in there since she had to feel for the opening to swab it anyway. I knew I should have told her not to tell me, or not to assess it... but I was tired and honestly, I wanted some reassurance that things are moving alone.

I'm in the exact same place I was 4 weeks ago. Soft, 1 cm, about 1/3 of the way thinned out. The apprentice mw tried to check frist, but my cervix was so far back (actually BEHIND the baby's head) that she couldn't reach it. MW said the head is floating and isn't on the cervix, since its still so far back. She also said that when my water breaks I should feel inside to make sure there's no cord, because there's so much water in front of the head. That doesn't happen too often does it... cord prolapse, I mean?

Sorry about the long, sad post. I'm just feeling really disappointed. I haven't slept in weeks and it seems its done nothing. I'm trying to believe it has to have been doing SOMETHING, even if its not immediately appearant, but right now all I want to do is cry.

Thanks for listening guys.

I am a lurker so I hope you odn't mind my responding.

Just keep telling yourself that the numbers mean NOTHING!!! NOT A THING! Now the "soft" part might mean something but the 1 cm number means nothing. That is why I had no internals at all with my last baby.

How many ladies hang out at 6 cm for a week or more? Lots! How many ladies go from closed to holding baby in 3 hours? Lots.

Those last few weeks are so hard. Hang in there!

My mom (who had nine babies) said that pregnancy was 8 months plus one year (meaning that the last 4 weeks felt like a year)

s again.

Another Candice here... backing up what the first one said. The numbers don't mean anything at all. I keep reminding myself of the same thing. I know how tough those contractions are though With DS1 I had consistent 2-3 minute apart 60-90 second long contractions for 5 weeks that never did a thing to my cervix... hang in there!

Oh mama,
:
I remember the feeling! I wasn't effeced or dialated at all until my water broke. In fact I was almost sent home in hard labour because of it, but an angel of a nurse decided I was really in fact in labour and a few minutes later my water broke and got everything started. It will happen soon!

just jumping in (i found this from the "new posts" thing) - i wanted to say, s i was in labor w/ my daughter for over a month, dilated to 3 cm much of that time. when she finally came, labor was fast and easy. hang in there. your body is working on it.

I am so sorry it is taking so long for you. I am 39 weeks 3 days as well but only I am feeling little to no pain which is very discouraging as well. Last time I was checked I was 0cm. I hear people say the #'s don't matter, but it doesn't help much! Here's hoping that soon we will be holding our little babes and this constant wondering will be over!

#1: 1cm, 75% effaced at 36 and 37 wks, went into labor 48hrs after last appt...
#2: no checks until 39 weeks when I couldn't stand it any more...OB couldn't even reach my cervix, it was so far back. I tried it myself and had to use my other hand to shove my fingers far enough in to feel *anything*. DS2 finally came at 40 weeks.

I felt the same way last Saturday. The last time I had been checked was at my homevisit, like 3 weeks ago and w/ all the cramps/cntx/etc I'd been having I thought I'd at least be a little more dialated. She checked me and sure enough...I'm still the same. I was pretty disappointed. But for now on I'm not gonna 'expect' anything. And really...when it comes down to it. It doesn't matter if we're dialated at all. Means nothing..in a way.

Hang in there Mama!!
